Resolvins and Protectins in Inflammation Resolution [PDF]

open access: yesChemical Reviews, 2011
The critical role of inflammatory processes in health and disease has long been recognized,1 yet the detailed molecular mechanisms and biological events that regulate the progression and resolution of inflammation remain of interest. A number of recent investigations have provided strong evidence that the resolution of inflammation is not a passive ...

The Role of Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators in Cystic Fibrosis Airways Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2020
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a recessive genetic disease due to mutations of the Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator (CFTR) gene encoding the CFTR chloride channel. The ion transport abnormalities related to CFTR mutation generate a dehydrated

Resolving Resolvins

open access: yesChemistry & Biology, 2013
In this issue of Chemistry & Biology, Dalli and colleagues report the chemical structures of resolvin D3 (RvD3) and aspirin-triggered RvD3, derived from the ω3-fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid. These compounds have a specific temporal appearance within inflammation resolution and display anti-inflammatory and proresolving properties.

Resolvin D1 and lipoxin A4 improve alveolarization and normalize septal wall thickness in a neonatal murine model of hyperoxia-induced lung injury. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The critical fatty acids Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) and Arachidonic Acid (AA) decline in preterm infants within the first postnatal week and are associated with neonatal morbidities, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD).

Resolvin E1 and Cytokines Environment in Skeletally Immature and Adult ACL Tears

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2021
The intra-articular synovial fluid environment in skeletally immature patients following an ACL tear is complex and remains undefined. Levels of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines change significantly in response to trauma and collectively ...

Resolvin D3 and Aspirin-Triggered Resolvin D3 Are Protective for Injured Epithelia [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Journal of Pathology, 2016
Acute lung injury is a life-threatening condition caused by disruption of the alveolar-capillary barrier leading to edema, influx of inflammatory leukocytes, and impaired gas exchange. Specialized proresolving mediators biosynthesized from essential fatty acids, such as docosahexaenoic acid, have tissue protective effects in acute inflammation. Herein,

High-intensity swimming alleviates nociception and neuroinflammation in a mouse model of chronic post-ischemia pain by activating the resolvin E1-chemerin receptor 23 axis in the spinal cord

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research, 2023
Physical exercise effectively alleviates chronic pain associated with complex regional pain syndrome type-I. However, the mechanism of exercise-induced analgesia has not been clarified.

Serum Resolvin E1 Levels and Its Relationship with Disease Activity in Ulcerative Colitis

open access: yesGastroenterology Research and Practice, 2019
Background. Resolvins originate from ω-3 PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acid) precursors and play a role in the resolution of inflammation. The aim of this study was to determine the serum Resolvin E1 levels in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and to ...

Modulation of the activities of neuronal ion channels by fatty acid-derived pro-resolvents

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2016
Progress of inflammation depends on the balance between two biological mechanisms: pro-inflammatory and pro-resolving processes. Many extracellular and intracellular molecular components including cytokines, growth factors, steroids, neurotransmitters ...

Resolvins as Regulators of the Immune System [PDF]

open access: yesThe Scientific World JOURNAL, 2010
Inflammation is the first response of the immune system to infection or injury, but excessive or inappropriate inflammatory responses contribute to a range of acute and chronic human diseases. Clinical assessment of dietary supplementation of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (i.e., eicosapentaenoic acid [EPA] and docosahexaenoic acid [DHA]) indicate ...
