Counterintuitive Fluorescence Blue Shift in Symmetry Breaking Dicationic Bis(indolium) with Two‐Photon Absorption Properties for NIR Living Cell Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Highly water‐soluble dicationic bis(indolium) dyes have been prepared, showing excellent two‐photon absorption and light emission. Their fluorescence behavior discloses an unusual increasing blue shift with increasing solvent polarity, which, in parallel, is beneficial for enhanced detection in biological media.

The Effect of Satellite Cells on Angiogenesis

open access: yes, 2007
Research for this thesis was conducted to study the mechanism by which satellite cells affect angiogenesis via hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).

Beyond Presumptions: Toward Mechanistic Clarity in Metal‐Free Carbon Catalysts for Electrochemical H2O2 Production via Data Science

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐free carbon catalysts enable the sustainable synthesis of hydrogen peroxide via two‐electron oxygen reduction; however, active site complexity continues to hinder reliable interpretation. This review critiques correlation‐based approaches and highlights the importance of orthogonal experimental designs, standardized catalyst passports ...

Spin and Charge Control of Topological End States in Chiral Graphene Nanoribbons on a 2D Ferromagnet

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral graphene nanoribbons on a ferromagnetic gadolinium‐gold surface alloy display tunable spin and charge states at their termini. Atomic work function variations and exchange fields enabe transitions between singlet, doublet, and triplet configurations.

Quantification and Tracking of Transplanted Satellite Cells

open access: yes, 2009
Satellite cells are adult stem cells that contribute to hypertrophy and repair in muscles. It is hypothesized that in muscular dystrophy, the satellite cells population is depleted at a very early age, due to repeated muscle damage and repair.

Tuning Amorphous‐Crystalline Catalytic Interfaces by Mechanochemistry: Cu‐Based Metallic Glasses Coupled with Ceria for CO Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ball‐milling Cu‐based metallic glasses with ceria creates a unique nanostructure where metallic glass particles are wrapped by CeO2 nanoparticles. The intimate integration triggers copper state reorganization during reaction and aging, boosting CO oxidation and COPrOx activity.

Human satellite cells: identification on human muscle fibres. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Satellite cells, normally quiescent underneath the myofibre basal lamina, are skeletal muscle stem cells responsible for postnatal muscle growth, repair and regeneration.

A Functional 2D Carbon Allotrope Combining Nanoporous Graphene and Biphenylene Segments

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis of a novel nanoporous graphene (NPG) is reported with biphenylene segments via thermal fusion of 12‐armchair porous graphene nanoribbons grown on gold surfaces. Characterization using STM, AFM, and DFT reveals low‐defect semiconducting behaviour and tunable band gaps.
