Exploring the Protective Effects of Schisandrin A and Schisandrin B Against Diabetic Cardiomyopathy With a Possible Mechanism Involving Complement Inhibition

Phytotherapy Research
ABSTRACT Schisandra berry , an edible fruit of the Schisandra genus, produces two main lignans known as Schisandrin A (SchA) and Schisandrin B (SchB). These compounds have garnered significant attention for their beneficial effects in alleviating diabetes

Schisandrin B and Schisandrol B induce mouse CYP2b10 associated with CAR not PXR

Phytochemistry Letters, 2020
Abstract Schisandrin B (SinB) and Schisandrol B (SolB) are two abundant compounds with similar structures in Schisandra sphenanthera widely used for hepatic diseases in Asian countries. They are also pharmacologically active components in many other traditional Chinese medicines.

Antioxidant effect of schisandrin B in nervous tissue

2014
Fructus schisandrae (FS), the fruit of Schisandra chinensis, has been used as tonic and sedative in traditional Chinese medicine. Previous studies from our laboratory have demonstrated that schisandrin B (Sch B), a dibenzocyclooctadiene derivative isolated from FS, could produce antioxidant effect on rodent liver and heart.

Schisandrin B and Alantolactone ameliorates experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in mice

The Journal of Immunology, 2020
Abstract Schisandrin B (Sch-B) and Alantolactone (ALT) are two distinct molecules each of which could be extracted from herbs Schisandra chinensis and Inula helenium, respectively, commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. Previous studies have revealed that both molecules impact STAT3, Nrf2 and Smad-mediated signaling pathways, and

Evaluation of neuroactive effects of ethanol extract of Schisandra chinensis, Schisandrin, and Schisandrin B and determination of underlying mechanisms by zebrafish behavioral profiling

Chinese Journal of Natural Medicines, 2018
Schisandra chinensis, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has been used to treat sleep disorders. Zebrafish sleep/wake behavioral profiling provides a high-throughput platform to screen chemicals, but has never been used to study extracts and components from TCM.

Comparative pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of schisandrin, deoxyschisandrin and schisandrin B in rats after combining acupuncture and herb medicine (schisandra chinensis)

Biomedical Chromatography, 2014
ABSTRACTRecently, combination therapy with acupuncture and medicine as a practical strategy to treat diseases has gained increasing attention. The present study aimed to investigate whether acupuncture stimulation at ST.36 had a potential impact on the pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of lignans. An HPLC‐ESI/MS analytical method was established

Insights Into Anticancer Mechanisms of Schisandrin B: Isolation, Pharmacokinetics, and Preclinical Evidence

Chemistry & Biodiversity
ABSTRACTTraditional medicinal systems in Asian countries revealed the utilization of plant‐based compounds is as old as human civilization. Schisandrin B (SCB), an isolated lignan from the fruit of Schisandra chinensis, is extensively used against different diseases.

Schisandrin B exacerbates acute pancreatitis by driving pathological pancreatic secretion

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications
Schisandrin B (SchB), a natural lignan with reported organ-protective effects, was hypothesized to ameliorate severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). We investigated the effects of SchB (30 and 60 mg/kg) in a caerulein-induced mouse model of SAP using histological, biochemical, and transcriptomic analyses.
