Serine Biosynthesis and Regulation in Haemophilus influenzae

Journal of Bacteriology, 1969
Nutritional mutants of Haemophilus influenzae requiring l -serine for growth were shown to be deficient in their capacity to synthesize serine-phosphate from 3-phosphoglycerate. On the basis of the correlation between this block and the requirement for an exogenous supply of the amino acid ...

On the biosynthesis of L-serine ethanolamine phosphate in the chicken

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1966
Abstract 1. 1. The biosynthesis of L -serine ethanolamine phosphate, a diester confined to fish, birds, reptile and amphibians, has been studied in chicken gut mucosa preparations. 2. 2. It has been shown that the diester is synthesised according to the overall reaction CDP-ethanolamine + L -serine → CMP + L -serine ethanolamine phosphate.

The Structure of Serine Palmitoyltransferase; Gateway to Sphingolipid Biosynthesis

Journal of Molecular Biology, 2007
Sphingolipid biosynthesis commences with the condensation of L-serine and palmitoyl-CoA to produce 3-ketodihydrosphingosine (KDS). This reaction is catalysed by the PLP-dependent enzyme serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT; EC 2.3.1.50), which is a membrane-bound heterodimer (SPT1/SPT2) in eukaryotes such as humans and yeast and a cytoplasmic homodimer in ...

Effect of acute ethanol on serine biosynthesis in liver

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1987
The effect of an acute intraperitoneal dose of ethanol (1 g/kg), glucose (7.2 g/kg), or the combination of the two on the metabolite pattern of the biosynthetic pathway of L-serine has been determined in rabbit liver in vivo as has the effect of 10 mM ethanol on the glucose-, fructose-, or pyruvate-stimulated accumulation of L-serine in rabbit ...

Changes in the pathways for serine biosynthesis in the developing amphibian

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, 1968
Abstract 1. 1. The pathways of serine biosynthesis utilizing either phosphorylated or nonphosphorylated intermediates, as well as the levels of activity of phosphoglycerate and d -glycerate dehydrogenases, have been investigated in tissues of frog at various stages of development. 2. 2.

The biosynthesis of glycine and serine by isolated chloroplasts

Phytochemistry, 1970
Abstract Chloroplasts were isolated non-aqueously from the leaves of 15-day-old pea plants. After sonication aqueous extracts were assayed for ability to synthesize glycine and serine. Such extracts were found to contain glyoxylate aminotransferase activity which was stimulated by addition of pyridoxal-5′-phosphate.

Serine biosynthesis from hydroxypyruvate in plants

Phytochemistry, 1963
Abstract Serine biosynthesis in plant extracts has been shown to occur via a transamination reaction between l -alanine and hydroxypyruvate. l -Alanine is the most active amino group donor of a number of amino acids that have been investigated. Green leaves are the richest source of the alanine : hydroxypyruvate transaminase.

Serine Transhydroxymethylase in Methionine Biosynthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Journal of Bacteriology, 1969
Serine transhydroxymethylase appears to be the first enzyme in the synthesis of the methyl group of methionine. Properties of serine transhydroxymethylase activity as assayed by the production of formaldehyde were correlated with properties of cell-free extracts for the methylation of homocysteine deriving the methyl group from the
