Nanoparticle‐mediated siRNA delivery systems for cancer therapy

open access: yesView, 2021
The small interfering RNA (siRNA)‐based therapeutics have raised great attention since the first RNA interference (RNAi)‐derived drug, patisiran, was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, which represented a landmark in the field of gene ...

Neurocognitive, School‐Based, and Quality of Life Outcomes for Youth With Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia: A Scoping Review

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The medical burdens of sickle cell disease (SCD) and transfusion‐dependent β‐thalassemia (TDT) are chronic and cumulative, even in children. Yet the effects expand beyond medications and healthcare visits due to their impacts on school attendance, academic performance, and peer engagement.

Polymers in Small-Interfering RNA Delivery

open access: yes, 2011
This review will cover the current strategies that are being adopted to efficiently deliver small interfering RNA using nonviral vectors, including the use of polymers such as polyethylenimine, poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid), polypeptides, chitosan ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Inhibition of Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus Using Small Interfering RNAs

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Acutely infectious new world alphaviruses such as Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus (VEEV) pose important challenges to the human population due to a lack of effective therapeutic intervention strategies.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Single-chain antibody–delivered Livin siRNA inhibits human malignant melanoma growth in vitro and in vivo

open access: yesTumor Biology, 2017
Although gene therapy has brought new insights into the treatment of malignant melanoma, targeting delivery of nucleic acid which targets critical oncogene/anti-oncogene in vivo is still a bottleneck in the therapeutic application.

Phenotypic Alteration of BMDM In Vitro Using Small Interfering RNA

open access: yesCells, 2022
Autologous macrophage transfer is an emerging platform for cell therapy. It is anticipated that conventional macrophage reprogramming based on ex vivo polarization using cytokines and ligands of TLRs may enhance the therapeutic effect.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...
