Solubility enhancement of benfotiamine, a lipid derivative of thiamine by solid dispersion technique

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences, 2012
The present study was aimed to increase the solubility of the poorly water soluble drug benfotiamine using hydrophilic polymers (PVP K-30 and HPMC E4). Solid dispersions were prepared by kneading method.

Superconductivity in an electron band just above the Fermi level: possible route to BCS-BEC superconductivity

open access: yes, 2014
Conventional superconductivity follows Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer(BCS) theory of electrons-pairing in momentum-space, while superfluidity is the Bose-Einstein condensation(BEC) of atoms paired in real-space. These properties of solid metals and ultra-cold

A Simulation Method to Resolve Hydrodynamic Interactions in Colloidal Dispersions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A new computational method is presented to resolve hydrodynamic interactions acting on solid particles immersed in incompressible host fluids. In this method, boundaries between solid particles and host fluids are replaced with a continuous interface by ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Hot melt extrusion aided amorphous solid dispersions of quercetin and resveratrol for solubility enhancement

open access: yesJournal of Applied Pharmaceutical Research
Background: Conversion of poorly soluble drugs into amorphous solid dispersions using different carriers is a formulation approach to improve solubility.

Screening of Fenofibrate-Simvastatin Solid Dispersions in the Development of Fixed-Dose Formulations for the Treatment of Lipid Disorders

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2023
The combination of statins and fibrates in the treatment of lipid abnormalities effectively regulates individual lipid fraction levels. In this study, the screening and assessment of the physicochemical properties of simvastatin-fenofibrate solid ...

Simulating (electro)hydrodynamic effects in colloidal dispersions: smoothed profile method

open access: yes, 2008
Previously, we have proposed a direct simulation scheme for colloidal dispersions in a Newtonian solvent [Phys.Rev.E 71,036707 (2005)]. An improved formulation called the ``Smoothed Profile (SP) method'' is presented here in which simultaneous time ...

M/L and Color Evolution for A Deep Sample of M* Cluster Galaxies at z~1: The Formation Epoch and the Tilt of the Fundamental Plane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We have measured velocity dispersions for a sample of 36 galaxies with J < 21.2 or Mr < -20.6 mag in MS1054-03, a massive cluster of galaxies at z = 0.83. Our data are of uniformly high quality down to our selection limit, our 16-hour exposures typically

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...
