Stable and flexible system for glucose homeostasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Pancreatic islets, controlling glucose homeostasis, consist of \alpha, \beta, and \delta\ cells. It has been observed that \alpha\ and \beta\ cells generate out-of-phase synchronization in the release of glucagon and insulin, counter-regulatory hormones for increasing and decreasing glucose levels, while \beta\ and \delta\ cells produce in-phase ...

Distinct Thalamic Reticular Cell Types Differentially Modulate Normal and Pathological Cortical Rhythms

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Integrative brain functions depend on widely distributed, rhythmically coordinated computations. Through its long-ranging connections with cortex and most senses, the thalamus orchestrates the flow of cognitive and sensory information.

Cell type-specific long-range connections of basal forebrain circuit

open access: yeseLife, 2016
The basal forebrain (BF) plays key roles in multiple brain functions, including sleep-wake regulation, attention, and learning/memory, but the long-range connections mediating these functions remain poorly characterized.

Lung carcinoid tumours: histology and Ki‐67, the eternal rivalry

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 82, Issue 2, Page 324-339, January 2023., 2023
Lung Carcinoid Tumours: Histology or Ki‐67 Index? WHO classification of Thoracic Tumours defines lung carcinoid tumours (LCTs) as well‐differentiated neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) classified in low grade typical (TC) and intermediate grade atypical carcinoids (AC).

Expression of somatostatin receptors in hemangioblastomas associated with von Hippel-Lindau disease as a novel diagnostic, therapeutic, and follow-up opportunity: A case report and literature review

open access: yesArchives of Endocrinology and Metabolism
SUMMARY Hemangioblastomas associated with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease are frequently multiple and recur during prolonged follow-up. Currently, no systemic treatment is available for these tumors.

A Molecularly Defined Medullary Network for Control of Respiratory Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The dynamic interplay between central respiratory chemoreceptors and the respiratory central pattern generator is essential for maintaining stable respiratory rhythm and patterns, particularly during sleep. This study offers novel insights into the anatomical, molecular, and functional characteristics of a medullary network involving the nucleus ...

Utility of Somatostatin Receptors in Gastrointestinal Tract and Pancreas Neuroendocrine Tumors

open access: yesNamık Kemal Tıp Dergisi, 2020
Aim: Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are heterogenous group of tumors. Most of gastroenteropancreatic NETs (GEPNETs) are welldifferentiated low-grade tumors but a subset of them displays aggressive behavior.

Inhibitory neuron map of sevoflurane induced neurotoxicity model in young primates

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2023
IntroductionSevoflurane, one of the most commonly used anesthetic agents in children, may induce neuronal dysfunction and cognitive impairment. Exposure to sevoflurane might induce an imbalance between neural excitation and inhibition which could be a ...

Catheter Injectable Multifunctional Biomaterial for the Treatment of Infected Enterocutaneous Fistulas

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multi‐functional shear‐thinning hydrogel is engineered to treat enterocutaneous fistulas. This hydrogel can resist external pressures allowing it to remain within the fistula tract and is shown to have significant antimicrobial, pro‐healing, and anti‐inflammatory properties, which were validated in in vitro and in vivo experiments.
