Spaceborne and spaceborn: Physiological aspects of pregnancy and birth during interplanetary flight

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Crewed interplanetary return missions that are on the planning horizon will take years, more than enough time for initiation and completion of a pregnancy. Pregnancy is viewed as a sequence of processes – fertilization, blastocyst formation, implantation, gastrulation, placentation, organogenesis, gross morphogenesis, birth and neonatal ...

A mitotic kinase scaffold depleted in testicular seminomas impacts spindle orientation in germ line stem cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Correct orientation of the mitotic spindle in stem cells underlies organogenesis. Spindle abnormalities correlate with cancer progression in germ line-derived tumors.

Canonical and non‐canonical functions of proteins regulating mitochondrial dynamics in mammalian physiology

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles that continuously remodel their architecture through coordinated cycles of fusion and fission. This review examines the four key GTPases that orchestrate mitochondrial dynamics in mammals: MFN1, MFN2, OPA1, and DRP1.

Effects of 17α‐Ethinylestradiol on Development and Gonadal Differentiation in the Estuarine Mummichog, Fundulus heteroclitus

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 345, Issue 2, Page 148-161, March 2026.
ABSTRACT In fish, sex determination and gonadal development are controlled by various genetic and environmental factors. In this study, experiments were conducted on the estuarine mummichog (Fundulus heteroclitus) to investigate gonadal differentiation following exposure to the synthetic estrogen, 17α‐ethinylestradiol (EE2).

Developmental regulation of expression of the lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) multigene family during mouse spermatogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Expression of the Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) genes during various stages of spermatogenesis was studied by using a combination of Northern blot analyses and in situ hybridization techniques.

The effect of salubrinal on the endoplasmic reticulum stress pathway in heat‐stressed spermatogonial cells in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 340-351, February 2026.
This study investigates the protective role of salubrinal against heat‐induced endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in mouse spermatogenic cells (GC1 and GC2). By modulating the ER stress pathway, salubrinal alleviates cellular stress and supports spermatogenic cell survival, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic candidate for heat‐related infertility.

Cloning and Expression Analysis of a Giant Gourami Vasa-Like cDNA

open access: yesHayati Journal of Biosciences, 2011
Molecular marker is useful in the development of testicular cells transplantation for detecting donor-derived germ cells in the recipient gonad. In this study, a giant gourami (Osphronemus goramy) vasa-like gene (GgVLG) was cloned and characterized for ...

Experiment K-6-16. Morphological examination of rat testes. The effect of Cosmos 1887 flight on spermatogonial population and testosterone level in rat testes [PDF]

open access: yes
Testes from rats flown on Cosmos 1887 for twelve and a half days were compared to basal control, synchronous control and vivarium maintained rats. When the mean weights of flight testes, normalized for weight/100 gms, were compared to the vivarium ...

Association pattern of reciprocal translocations induced by chemicals and ionizing radiation in mouse germ cells: a comparison between single and combined treatments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The similarity degree of chemical, ionizing radiation, and combined treatments of chemical plus ionizing radiation in their capacity to induce reciprocal translocations was analyzed by means of multivariate analysis techniques on mice germ cells.

Transcriptome analysis of differentiating spermatogonia stimulated with kit ligand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Kit ligand (KL) is a survival factor and a mitogenic stimulus for differentiating spermatogonia. However, it is not known whether KL also plays a role in the differentiative events that lead to meiotic entry of these cells.
