Spermidine in the Bacterial Cell [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1961
SUMMARY The concentration of spermidine in extracts of various micro-organisms was determined; Neurospora crassa contained the highest concentrations of spermidine, while in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae the concentration of spermidine was lower.

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

Spermidine-induced improvements in water relations and antioxidant defense enhance drought tolerance in yarrow (Achillea millefolium L.)

open access: yesHeliyon
Drought stress poses a serious threat to agricultural productivity worldwide. This study investigated the mitigative effects of exogenous spermidine on drought stressed yarrow (Achillea millefolium L.). Plants were subjected to three drought levels (25 %,

Spermidine intake is associated with cortical thickness and hippocampal volume in older adults

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2020
Background: The natural polyamine spermidine, known to be important for cellular function, decreases during aging. Previous research has demonstrated beneficial impact of spermidine intake on memory functions in both animal models and humans, suggesting ...

Research Progress and Potential Applications of Spermidine in Ocular Diseases

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2022
Spermidine, a natural polyamine, exists in almost all human tissues, exhibiting broad properties like anti-aging, autophagy induction, anti-inflammation, anti-oxidation, cell proliferation activation, and ion channel regulation.

Spermidine cures yeast of prions [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobial Cell, 2016
Prions are self-perpetuating amyloid protein aggregates which underlie various neurodegenerative diseases in mammals. The molecular basis underlying their conversion from a normally soluble protein into the prion form remains largely unknown. Studies aimed at uncovering these mechanism(s) are therefore essential if we are to develop effective ...

Expanding Chemical Space of Nucleic Acid Nanoparticles for Tunable Antiviral‐Like Immunomodulatory Responses and Potent Adjuvant Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a nucleic acid nanoparticle (NANP) platform designed to be rrecognized by the human innate immune system in a regulated manner. By changing chemical composition while maintaining constant architectural parameters, we identify key determinants of immunorecognition enabling the rational design of NANPs with tunable immune activation profiles

From RNA to DNA: How Cargo Identity Reprograms Lipid Nanoparticle Architecture and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The evolution of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) spans from RNA‐LNPs, used in mRNA vaccines, to DNA‐LNPs, ideal for gene therapies. Emerging bionano architectures, decorated with DNA and plasma proteins, pave the way for advanced DNA‐based therapies that are more stable, targeted, and customizable.

Chronic Hypoxia Disrupts Spermatogenesis Through ASXL2–EZH2–Mediated Microtubule Destabilization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals the mechanism by which chronic hypoxia impairs spermatogenesis via the ASXL2–EZH2 axis, hindering the transition of spermatids from round to elongated forms. Key findings reveal that under hypoxic conditions, downregulated ASXL2 expression reduces EZH2 binding to the CEP162 promoter, leading to decreased H3K27me3 modification and ...

Effect of exogenous spermidine on expression profile of reproductive hormone receptors in mouse ovaries

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2017
The polyamines spermidine and spermine and their precursor putrescine are a class of compounds containing two or more amino groups and participate in the regulation of various physiological and pathological processes by interacting with negatively ...
