The transcription factor STAT6 plays a critical role in promoting beta cell viability and is depleted in islets of individuals with type 1 diabetes [PDF]
In type 1 diabetes, selective beta cell loss occurs within the inflamed milieu of insulitic islets. This milieu is generated via the enhanced secretion of proinflammatory cytokines and by the loss of anti-inflammatory molecules such as IL-4 and IL-13.

Interleukin-4 and -13 Induce Upregulation of the Murine Macrophage 12/15-Lipoxygenase Activity: Evidence for the Involvement of Transcription Factor STAT6 [PDF]
AbstractWhen human monocytes or alveolar macrophages are cultured in the presence of interleukin (IL)-4 or IL-13, the expression of the reticulocyte-type 15-lipoxygenase is induced. In mice a 15-lipoxygenase is not expressed, but a leukocyte-type 12-lipoxygenase is present in peritoneal macrophages.

Turnover and function of DNA methylation at transcription factor binding sites [PDF]
Cell type identity is largely determined by regulatory networks consistent of various transcription factors. Transcription factor activity requires interaction with DNA and thus critically depends on the accessibility of binding motifs.

Unraveling the epigenetic code in cancer cell–tumor microenvironment crosstalk
Epigenetic regulation is a key driver of cancer development and progression. Diverse epigenetic alterations in cancer cells and components of the tumor microenvironment (TME) orchestrate their communication through multiple mechanisms. We discuss how the epigenetic code coordinates bidirectional cancer cell–TME crosstalk to promote cancer progression ...
