Small‐Molecule Inhibitors of Store‐Operated Calcium Entry
ChemMedChem, 2009AbstractMolecules that inhibit store‐operated calcium entry (SOCE) are potentially useful immunomodulating agents. The identification of proteins involved in this pathway may further enable the identification of selective inhibitors. Herein we document some examples of the small‐molecule inhibitors of SOCE that have been reported to date.

Store-Operated Calcium Entry in the Cardiovascular System
2021Calcium (Ca2+) is a critical regulator of cardiovascular function. The Ca2+ channels, pumps, and exchangers contributing to cytosolic Ca2+ signals governing cardiac contraction and vascular tone are well known. In addition to these Ca2+ components, store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) is a ubiquitous mechanism recently recognized underlying ...

Store-Operated Calcium Entry in Mouse Cardiomyocytes
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2019The fluorescent dye fura-2 AM was employed to record activation of Ca2+ entry in response to a decrease in Ca2+ concentration in the endoplasmic reticulum. Using whole-cell voltage clamp technique, we revealed Ca2+ currents with an amplitude of 0.46±0.13 pA/pF that passed through selective channels with current-voltage characteristics similar to those ...

Seminars in Neuroscience, 1996
Many hormones, growth factors and neurotransmitters stimulate the production of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate evoking the release of calcium from intracellular stores. The depletion of these intracellular calcium stores subsequently activates a voltage-independent plasma membrane calcium influx in many cell types.

The cellular and molecular basis of store-operated calcium entry
Nature Cell Biology, 2002The impact of calcium signalling on so many areas of cell biology reflects the crucial role of calcium signals in the control of diverse cellular functions. Despite the precision with which spatial and temporal details of calcium signals have been resolved, a fundamental aspect of the generation of calcium signals -- the activation of 'store-operated ...

Store-operated calcium entry in thrombosis and thrombo-inflammation
Cell Calcium, 2019Cytosolic free calcium (Ca2+) is a second messenger regulating a wide variety of functions in blood cells, including adhesion, activation, proliferation and migration. Store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE), triggered by depletion of Ca2+ from the endoplasmic reticulum, provides a main mechanism of regulated Ca2+ influx in blood cells.

Depletion of intracellular calcium stores such as the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) activates store-operated channels for Ca2+ entry across the plasma membrane (PM), as demonstrated in Fig. 8.1. This process is called the store-operated calcium entry (SOCE), a common and ubiquitous mechanism of regulating Ca2+ influx into cells [1, 7, 36, 38].

Store-Operated Calcium Entry: Unveiling the Calcium Handling Signalplex
2015Store-operated Ca(2+) entry (SOCE) is an important mechanism for Ca(2+) influx in non-excitable cells, also present in excitable cells. The activation of store-operated channels (SOCs) is finely regulated by the filling state of the intracellular agonist-sensitive Ca(2+) compartments, and both, the mechanism of sensing the Ca(2+) stores and the nature ...

Store-Operated Calcium Entry: A Tough Nut to CRAC
Science's STKE, 2004Store-operated or capacitative Ca 2+ entry is a prominent feature of many electrically nonexcitable cell types. It is due to Ca 2+ ion permeation pathways in the plasma membrane that are activated after receptor-mediated Ca 2+ release from intracellular stores. Despite

Store-Operated Calcium Entry: An Historical Overview
2017Store-operated calcium entry is a mechanism of Ca2+ signaling that has evolved from theory to molecules over a period of 30 years. This brief overview summarizes the major milestones that have led to the current concepts regarding the mechanisms and regulation of this most widely encountered of calcium signaling mechanisms.
