Microfluidic-enabled liposomes elucidate size-dependent transdermal transport. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Microfluidic synthesis of small and nearly-monodisperse liposomes is used to investigate the size-dependent passive transdermal transport of nanoscale lipid vesicles.

Hair Follicle Seedling Cryomicroneedles from Hierarchical Microfluidic Organoid on a Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this paper, a hierarchical microfluidic chip is developed to produce uniform hair follicle organoids (HFOs) in cryomicroneedles. Cryopreservation agents encapsulate HFOs, preserving viability and hair growth potential. The cryomicroneedles enable simple intradermal transplantation with good skin penetration.

Epidermal METTL1‐Mediated m7G Modification Drives Psoriatic Inflammation by Stabilizing Bdkrb1 and Orchestrating Neutrophil Recruitment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study unveils an unrecognized pro‐inflammatory epitranscriptomic checkpoint in psoriasis. By installing m7G modifications on the 5′ UTR of Bdkrb1 mRNA, METTL1 enhances receptor stability to orchestrate keratinocyte‐driven neutrophil recruitment via p38 MAPK signaling.

Hydration Disrupts Human Stratum Corneum Ultrastructure

open access: yes, 2003
Using transmission and cryo-scanning electron microscopy, we confirm that extended water exposure leads to extensive disruption of stratum corneum intercellular lipid lamellae.

Inside‐Outside ROS Therapeutic Strategy Based on Piezoelectric Nano‐Urchin for Drug‐Resistant Bacteria Biofilm Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The contribution of this study lies not only in enabling effective treatment of drug‐resistant biofilm infections, but also in establishing a transferable therapeutic paradigm: Ultrasound‐triggered mechanical forces synergistically enhance piezoelectric polarization and nanozyme activity, driving functional ROS generation inside and outside biofilms ...

Heterogeneous Drying Stresses in Stratum Corneum

open access: yes, 2012
We study the drying of stratum corneum, the skin's outermost layer and an essential barrier to mechanical and chemical stresses from the environment. Even though stratum corneum exhibits structural features across multiple length-scales, contemporary ...

DNase 2 is the main DNA-degrading enzyme of the stratum corneum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The cornified layer, the stratum corneum, of the epidermis is an efficient barrier to the passage of genetic material, i.e. nucleic acids. It contains enzymes that degrade RNA and DNA which originate from either the living part of the epidermis or from ...

Electrical properties of the epidermal stratum corneum

open access: yesMedical & Biological Engineering, 1976
The electrical properties of the epidermal stratum corneum were investigated by cellulose adhesive tape stripping. The distribution function of the relaxation times on the impedance locus of stratum corneum was deduced. It was found that this function of the thin layer does not satisfy the Cole-Cole circular arc, but the skin impedance remaining after ...

Facile Fabrication of Low‐Impedance, Highly Conformal Epidermal Electrodes Based on Laser‐Induced Graphene–Silver Nanocomposites

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A facile laser‐induced graphene–silver nanocomposite strategy enables ultrathin epidermal electrodes with low impedance, high conductivity, and excellent mechanical robustness. The porous LIG–Ag conductive network mechanically interlocked with SEBS provides stable, motion‐resistant biopotential monitoring, enabling high‐fidelity ECG, EMG, and EEG ...
