Platelet secretion defect in a patient with stromal interaction molecule 1 deficiency
Blood, 2013To the editor: During the last few years, the Ca2+ sensor stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1) and the channel protein Orai1 have emerged as critical components of store operated Ca2+ entry in platelets.[1][1] In human platelets, both proteins were detected in dense granules and lysosome ...

Functional role of stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1) in vascular smooth muscle cells
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2007We investigated the functional role of STIM1, a Ca(2+) sensor in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) that regulates store-operated Ca(2+) entry (SOCE), in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). STIM1 was mainly localized at the ER and plasma membrane. The knockdown of STIM1 expression by small interfering (si) RNA drastically decreased SOCE.

AbstractAimThe present study was conducted to determine whether two important signalling molecules of store‐operated channel (SOC), stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1) and Orai1, were involved in glomerular podocyte injury. We explored the effects of STIM1/Orai1 overexpression on podocyte associated proteins and cell permeability.MethodsThe ...

Increasing evidence has shown that stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1), a key subunit of store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE), is closely associated with tumor growth, development, and metastasis. However, there is no report of a comprehensive assessment of STIM1 in pan-cancer.

Abstract 447: Essential Role of Stromal Interaction Molecule 1 in Heart Failure
Circulation Research, 2016Background: Stromal interacting molecule 1 (STIM1) is a calcium sensor in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). We previously reported that STIM1 plays opposing roles in vascular smooth muscle cells (SMC) vs. endothelial cell in the regulation of vascular reactivity.

Structural and Functional Investigations of Stromal Interaction Molecule 1

In vascular endothelial cells, store-operated calcium entry (SOCE) activates endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) and regulates nitric oxide (NO) production as well as flow-dependent mechanical stimuli. Stromal interaction molecule 1, or STIM1, was recently identified to be essential for SOCE, acting as a calcium sensor for intracellular calcium stores ...

Previously we have demonstrated that stromal interacting molecule-1 (STIM1) was involved in ethanol induced liver injury. However, the exact pathogenic mechanism of STIM1 in alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is still unknown. We constructed plasmid vectors encoding short-hairpin RNA against STIM1 to investigate its role in ALD in the rat liver cell line ...

Stromal Interaction Molecule 1 Disruption Protects Myocardial from Ischemia ‐ Reperfusion Injury
The FASEB Journal, 2016Background It has been reported that the increase in Stromal Interacting Molecule 1 (STIM1) expression is associated with myocardial complication. However, the role of vascular STIM1 in cardiac ischemia‐reperfusion (I/R) injury is unknown.
