A simple protocol for the subcellular fractionation of skeletal muscle cells and tissue
Background We describe a method for subcellular fractionation of mouse skeletal muscle, myoblast and myotubes to obtain relatively pure fractions of nuclear, cytosolic and mitochondrial compartments.

Calcium uptake by subcellular fractions of human umbilical artery
Two different mechanisms for the active accumulation of Ca2+ by subcellular fractions of human umbilical artery are described. One, located in the mitochondrial fraction, was induced by exogenous ATP or respiratory substrates (ADP and succinate) and was

Exploring Subcellular Cerebellar Fractions with the Electron Microscope
Differential ultracentrifugation and subcellular fractionation historically helped to study the components of the cell, to discover new cellular organelles, and to decipher their morphological and molecular properties.

HPLC assay of zearalenone and reduced metabolites in S9 fractions of duck liver [PDF]
HPLC analysis of zearalenone (ZEA), zearalenols (-ZOL and ß-ZOL) and zearalanols (-ZAL and ß-ZAL) was developed, in order to obtain a sensitive and reproducible method to quantify ZEA and its reduced metabolites in subcellular fractions of animal livers (

Proteolytic activity and quantity of legumain in subcellular fractions of HCT116 and SW620 cells.
(A) Proteolytic activity of legumain determined by substrate cleavage (Z-Ala-Ala-Asn-NHMec) relative to total protein content of each subcellular compartment of HCT116 (dotted bars) and SW620 (chequered bars) cells after density gradient centrifugations.

Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and Mycoplasma flocculare are genetically similar bacteria, which coinhabit the porcine respiratory tract. These mycoplasmas share most of the known virulence factors, but, while M. hyopneumoniae causes porcine enzootic pneumonia

The roach Eurycotis floridana was reared on a semisynthetic diet containing minimal cholesterol-4-14C (0.005%) supplemented with cholestanol-7α-3H (0.1%), and various tissues of the insect were separated into ``nuclear,'' ``mitochondrial,'' and ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
