TAAR1 Expression in Human Macrophages and Brain Tissue: A Potential Novel Facet of MS Neuroinflammation

open access: yes, 2021
TAAR1 is a neuroregulator with emerging evidence suggesting a role in immunomodulation. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an immune-mediated demyelinating disease of the central nervous system.

Systemic Everolimus Does Not Block the Incubation of Methamphetamine‐Craving: A Dose–Response Study

open access: yesAddiction Biology, Volume 31, Issue 9, September 2026.
Oral pretreatment with the mTOR inhibitor Everolimus failed to block incubated methamphetamine‐seeking in a rat model, even at doses as high as 10 mg/kg. Further, neither methamphetamine experience nor Everolimus pretreatment altered protein indices of mTOR signaling with the prefrontal cortex.

Psychedelics, entactogens and psychoplastogens for depression and related disorders

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 14, Page 3897-3919, July 2026.
Currently, the most actively investigated rapidly acting antidepressants, anxiolytics and/or anti PTSD agents, include psychedelics e.g. psilocybin, LSD, N,N‐dimethyltryptamine, ayahuasca; non‐hallucinogenic entactogens, e.g. MDMA; psychoplastogens which rapidly promote neuroplasticity, e.g.

Trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) is a positive prognosticator for epithelial ovarian cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1) is a Gαs- protein coupled receptor that plays an important role in the regulation of the immune system and neurotransmission in the CNS.

Towards Mechanism‐Informed Treatments for Mental Health

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 5, May 2026.
Neuropsychiatric disorders impose a major global health burden, and current treatments, which historically mostly targeted dopamine and serotonin dysfunctions, often provide only partial, symptomatic relief. This review highlights emerging evidence that additional neuromodulator systems, including acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and endocannabinoids ...

Trace amine-associated receptor 1 regulation of Kv1.4 channels in trigeminal ganglion neurons contributes to nociceptive behaviors

open access: yesThe Journal of Headache and Pain, 2023
Background Trace amines, such as tyramine, are endogenous amino acid metabolites that have been hypothesized to promote headache. However, the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms remain unknown.

Evaluation of preclinical antipsychotic models used to support first‐in‐human clinical trials

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 7, Page 1364-1389, April 2026.
Abstract Schizophrenia is regarded as a complex and heterogeneous psychiatric disorder, characterised by diverse symptoms and comorbidities, which complicate both clinical management and drug development. Current pharmacological treatment, primarily based on dopamine D2 receptor antagonism or partial agonism, which has not markedly progressed since the

Interkingdom Interactions in the Gut: Ecological Mechanisms, Homeostasis, and Therapeutic Modulation

open access: yesGut Medicine, Volume 2, Issue 1, Page 23-39, March 2026.
ABSTRACT The gut microbiota constitutes a highly complex and dynamic ecosystem that profoundly influences host physiology, metabolism, and immunity. This review provides an integrative overview of the mechanisms through which gut microorganisms—particularly bacteria and fungi—interact with host cells and with each other to maintain intestinal ...

MicroRNAs in Methamphetamine: Addiction, Neurotoxicity, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesMedComm – Future Medicine, Volume 5, Issue 1, March 2026.
The use of METH leads to the release of dopamine from the affected brain regions, including the nucleus accumbens (NAc), ventral tegmental area (VTA), prefrontal cortex (PFC), hippocampus (Hip), and striatum. This triggers signals that alter miRNA expression, which in turn leads to differential expression of target genes.

Identification and in vivo Characterization of a Potential TAAR1 Antagonist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
TAAR1 is a G-protein coupled receptor expressed in monoaminergic regions in the brain and represents a potential novel therapeutic target for the treatment of neurological disorders.
