MALDI imaging MS reveals candidate lipid markers of polycystic kidney disease[S]
Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) is a severe, monogenetically inherited kidney and liver disease. PCK rats carrying the orthologous mutant gene serve as a model of human disease, and alterations in lipid profiles in PCK rats suggest ...

Urologic Bacteriome: The Hero or the Villain in Prostate Cancer Onset, Progression, and Treatment?
ABSTRACT Prostate cancer (PCa) is the second most frequently diagnosed cancer in men worldwide and the fifth leading cause of cancer‐related mortality, presenting urgent unmet clinical needs in diagnosis and treatment. The recognition of the microbiome as a key factor in human health has prompted numerous studies, revealing an exciting new approach to ...

Ursodeoxycholic acid inhibits uptake and vasoconstrictor effects of taurocholate in human placenta [PDF]
ABSTRACT Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) causes increased transfer of maternal bile acids to the fetus and an increased incidence of sudden fetal death. Treatment includes ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), but it is not clear if UDCA protects the fetus.

This study established an RT‐MSCs‐based therapeutic approach for scleroderma in mice. RT‐MSCs attenuated fibrosis by regulating mitochondrial autophagy and restored gut microbiota homeostasis. Metabolomic analyses confirmed recovery of key metabolites, and RT‐MSCs demonstrated favorable lesion targeting and safety profiles.

In reservoir‐associated RT033 strains, we observe a natural rewiring of spore germination that lowers the activation threshold and broadens bile‐salt specificity, enabling germination at low germinant levels and in response to typically inhibitory bile‐salts common in animal hosts.

Disordered Bile Acid Metabolism in Alcohol‐Related Hepatitis
Serum conjugated primary bile acids accumulate in alcohol‐related hepatitis due to downregulation of hepatocyte bile acid transporters. Hepatocyte growth factor is elevated in alcohol‐related hepatitis and downregulates BSEP expression. This detrimentally affects the hepatoprotective adaptive reduction in NTCP/increase in BSEP seen in cholestasis ...

Evolution of substrate specificity for the bile salt transporter ASBT (SLC10A2)[S]
The apical Na+-dependent bile salt transporter (ASBT/SLC10A2) is essential for maintaining the enterohepatic circulation of bile salts. It is not known when Slc10a2 evolved as a bile salt transporter or how it adapted to substantial changes in bile salt ...
