Crosstalk Between Parkinson's Disease and Colorectal Cancer: Genetic Mechanisms, Gut Microbiota, and Therapeutic Insights

open access: yesHealth Care Science, Volume 5, Issue 5, Page 495-513, October 2026.
This review elucidates the crosstalk between Parkinson's disease and colorectal cancer, driven by shared genetics (PRKN, PINK1, DJ‐1) involving oxidative stress, cell cycle regulation, and inflammation. It identifies the gut microbiota—via functional amyloids and short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs)—as a mechanistic bridge, offering insights for dual ...

Pancreatic Cancer Disrupts Circadian Patterns of Gene Expression in Cardiorespiratory Muscles

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 17, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Cancer cachexia, a debilitating syndrome characterized by muscle wasting, significantly impacts survival in gastrointestinal cancers like pancreatic cancer. Emerging evidence suggests a link between cancer cachexia and disrupted circadian rhythms in peripheral tissues, including locomotor muscles. However, circadian dysregulation in

Role of myeloid cell transcription factor EB in alcohol-induced liver injury in mice

open access: yesLiver Research
Background and aims: Alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is a leading cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality worldwide, with no currently effective treatment. ALD is caused by excessive lipid buildup, which eventually triggers inflammation and

Cancer Cell Metastasis: From Molecular Mechanisms to Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
The schematic representation of intrinsic and extrinsic influences of cancer cell metastasis. Genomic evolution of metastatic tumor cells (MTCs) promotes their metastatic phenotypes and reconstruct the primary tumor microenvironment. During MTCs migration along different routes (blood circulation, lymphatic vessels, and perineuronal spaces), the ...

Selective clearance of aberrant tau proteins and rescue of neurotoxicity by transcription factor EB

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2014
Accumulating evidence implicates impairment of the autophagy‐lysosome pathway in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Recently discovered, transcription factor EB (TFEB) is a molecule shown to play central roles in cellular degradative processes.

Autophagy Flux Is Remodeled Sex‐ and Cell Type‐Specifically During Human Aging, and Is Linked to Reduced Physical Function in Older Adults

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2026.
Autophagy‐gene transcription increases with age and is uncoupled from autophagy flux. Autophagy flux is remodeled sex‐ and cell type‐specifically and is associated with worse physical function in older adults. In a pilot intervention study, elevated PBMC autophagy flux decreased following mild exercise in older adults.

Sodium Butyrate Attenuates Renal Fibrosis by Regulating Glycolysis and Histone H4K12 Lactylation in Diabetic Kidney Disease

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 28, Issue 10, Page 9518-9534, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background The role of histone lactylation in diabetes associated renal fibrosis remains poorly defined. In this study, we investigated the contribution of histone H4 lysine 12 lactylation (H4K12la) to abnormal glycolysis and renal fibrogenesis in diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and evaluated sodium butyrate (NaB) as a potential therapeutic ...

Loss of C9orf72 increases TFEB in the nucleus.

open access: yes, 2016
A) Western analysis of TFEB levels after knockdown of C9orf72 in HEK293T cells. HEK293T were transfected with GFP-tagged TFEB and C9orf72 shRNA or control shRNA and then the lysates were analyzed using an antibody to GFP.

An Integrated Proteomics and Genomics Approach to Identify Essential Protein Kinases During Human Trophoblast Development

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 17, 15 September 2026.
Integrated quantitative proteomic, phosphoproteomic, and transcriptomic analyses of human trophoblast stem cells identify stage‐specific kinase signaling networks that regulate trophoblast self‐renewal and differentiation into syncytiotrophoblasts and extravillous trophoblasts.
