Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) is a biologically active molecule generated by the gut microbiota. Accumulating evidences have indicated a close association between high plasma TMAO levels and the risk of developing atherosclerosis (AS). AS is considered a

Sequence‐Dependent Heterotypic Assemblies of Intrinsically Disordered Peptides
Two oppositely charged intrinsically disordered peptides (IDPs) coassemble into heterotypic nanofibers. Homochiral mixtures (L/L IDPs) form homogeneous, aligned bundles with the more positive IDP. Heterochiral mixtures (L/D IDPs) yield heterogeneous, twisted bundles as positive‐IDP content increases.

Association of TMAO levels with indicators of ulcerative colitis activity [PDF]
Background: The diagnosis of ulcerative colitis (UC) today is limited to a small number of biomarkers. Trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) is the product of reactions resulting from the degradation of dietary-free choline, phosphatidylcholine, and carnitine ...

As antiretroviral therapy (ART) prolongs lifespans, people with HIV (PWH) face a new syndemic: Cardiovascular‐Kidney‐Metabolic (CKM) syndrome. Yet CKM in PWH is poorly characterized. Inflammation, complex pharmacokinetic (PK) alterations, ART‐associated metabolic effects, and gut dysbiosis amplify risk. Managing CKM increases medication burden, thereby

Metformin is the most widely prescribed antidiabetic drug, yet adherence remains difficult to objectively assess. Using untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics, we analyzed plasma from 637 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) with confirmed metformin use and 143 nondiabetic controls, annotating 614 metabolites.

Systemic aging fuels heart failure: Molecular mechanisms and therapeutic avenues
Abstract Systemic aging influences various physiological processes and contributes to structural and functional decline in cardiac tissue. These alterations include an increased incidence of left ventricular hypertrophy, a decline in left ventricular diastolic function, left atrial dilation, atrial fibrillation, myocardial fibrosis and cardiac ...

Atherothrombosis and Oxidative Stress: Mechanisms and Management in Elderly [PDF]
Significance: The incidence of cardiovascular events (CVEs) increases with age, representing the main cause of death in an elderly population. Aging is associated with overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which may affect clotting and ...
