Mechanisms of microRNA mediated gene silencing in C. elegans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Mechanisms of microRNA mediated gene silencing in C. elegans Xavier Ding Dissertation abstract microRNAs (miRNAs) are a large family of small non-coding RNAs, which post-transcriptionally repress numerous genes; a type of regulation which is ...

Overexpression of Arabidopsis thaliana ERI, the homolog of C. elegans Enhancer of RNAinterference, leads to enhanced growth

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2015
Organisms adopt a wide range of strategies to adapt to change. Gene silencing describes the ability of organisms to modulate the expression of susceptible genes at certain times at the transcriptional or the translational level.

Transcriptional silencing of multiple genes in trophozoites of Entamoeba histolytica. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2006
In a previous work we described the transcriptional silencing of the amoebapore A (AP-A) gene (Ehap-a) of Entamoeba histolytica strain HM-1:IMSS. The silencing occurred following transfection with a plasmid containing a 5' upstream region (473 bp) of ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

BAP1 complex promotes transcription by opposing PRC1-mediated H2A ubiquitylation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
In Drosophila, the Calypso–ASX complex catalyzes H2A deubiquitination and aids Polycomb in transcriptional silencing. Here the authors show that the orthologous complex, BAP1.com, promotes gene activation by counteracting PRC1-mediated gene silencing.

RNA Silencing against Geminivirus: Complementary Action of Posttranscriptional Gene Silencing and Transcriptional Gene Silencing in Host Recovery [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2009
ABSTRACT RNA silencing in plants is a natural defense system mechanism against invading nucleic acids such as viruses. Geminiviruses, a family of plant viruses characterized by a circular, single-stranded DNA genome, are thought to be both inducers and targets of RNA silencing.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
