Galactooligosaccharides formation during enzymatic hydrolysis of lactose: towards a prebiotic enriched milk [PDF]
The formation of galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) in skim milk during the treatment with several commercial β-galactosidases (Bacillus circulans, Kluyveromyces lactis and Aspergillus oryzae) was analyzed in detail, at 4°C and 40°C.

Production of Galacto‐Oligosaccharides by Enzymatic Membrane Reactors Using Free β‐Galactosidase
Attachment of a membrane module with an already existing stirred‐tank reactor, designated as free enzyme membrane reactor, which might be a potential alternative for the industrial production of prebiotic galacto‐oligosaccharide. In this review, different critical aspects related to production of GOS by FEMR are mentioned in a judicious way.

Kinetics and metabolism of Bifidobacterium adolescentis MB 239 growing on glucose, galactose, lactose, and galactooligosaccharides [PDF]
The kinetics and the metabolism of Bifidobacterium adolescentis MB 239 growing on galactooligosaccharides (GOS), lactose, galactose, and glucose were investigated. An unstructured unsegregated model for growth in batch cultures was developed, and kinetic

Xylooligosaccharide Production From Lignocellulosic Biomass and Their Health Benefits as Prebiotics
Lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) comprising of wheat bran, coconut husk, rice husk, cereals straw, and other hardwood and softwoods is a good source for the production of xylooligosaccharides (XOS) (prebiotic). XOS produced are nondigestible carbohydrates being stable under stomach pH and digestive enzymes so they can be easily delivered to the intestine ...

The effects of transgalactosylated disaccharide (TD) intake on human fecal microflora and their metabolism were investigated in 12 Japanese males. TD is a mixture of sugars, galactosyl galactose, and galactosyl glucose, synthesized from lactose through the transgalactosylation reaction of Streptococcus thermophilus beta-galactosidase.
