Pro-inflammatory mediators sensitise transient receptor potential melastatin 3 cation channel (TRPM3) function in mouse sensory neurons

open access: yesNeuropharmacology
Pro-inflammatory mediators can directly activate pain-sensing neurons, known as nociceptors. Additionally, these mediators can sensitise ion channels and receptors expressed by these cells through transcriptional and post-translational modulation, leading to nociceptor hypersensitivity.

Rational tuning of temperature sensitivity of the TRPM8 channel

open access: yesEMBO Reports
Detecting temperature is crucial for the survival of living organisms. Although the temperature sensitive Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 8 (TRPM8) channel has been identified as the prototypical cold sensor, the mechanisms by which it detects ...

Potential pathophysiological role of the ion channel TRPM3 in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and the therapeutic effect of low-dose naltrexone

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine
Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a debilitating disease with a broad overlap of symptomatology with Post-COVID Syndrome (PCS).

Stimulus–Transcription Coupling of TRPM3 Channels: A Signaling Pathway from the Plasma Membrane to the Nucleus

open access: yesBiomolecules
Transient receptor potential melastatin-3 (TRPM3) channels are cation channels activated by heat and chemical ligands. TRPM3 regulates heat sensation, secretion, neurotransmitter release, iris constriction, and tumor promotion.

Stereoselectivity and functional plasticity of a common ligand-binding pocket in TRPM3

open access: yesNature Communications
The transient receptor potential melastatin 3 (TRPM3) channel is a key mediator of peripheral pain signaling, and pathogenic mutations in TRPM3 are linked to neurodevelopmental delay and epilepsy.

A duo of redox-sensitive pore-loop cysteines controls the activity of the neural ion channel TRPM3

open access: yesCommunications Chemistry
Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 3 (TRPM3) is a non-selective, Ca2+-permeable ion channel that plays a pivotal role in peripheral thermosensation and nociception.

Assessing the Role of the Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 3 (TRPM3) Ion Channel in Visceral Sensation

open access: yes
Abdominal pain is a significant clinical problem impacting many individuals including patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Current therapeutics for IBD-related pain include opioids which are addictive and associated with increased mortality in IBD patients.

Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 3 ion channel expressed in sensory neurons mediates osteoarthritis pain in mice:TRPM3 mediates osteoarthritis pain

open access: yes
Objective: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease characterized by chronic pain. We investigated whether the ion channel transient receptor potential melastatin 3 (TRPM3), expressed in sensory neurons, mediates OA pain. Design: We used genetically modified mice, pharmacological tools, and behavioural assessments to evaluate the role of ...
