Genomic organization and evolution of the
Background The cattle UL16-binding protein 1 (ULBP1) and ULBP2 genes encode members of the MHC Class I superfamily that have homology to the human ULBP genes. Human ULBP1 and ULBP2 interact with the NKG2D receptor to activate effector cells in the immune

Four novel ULBP splice variants are ligands for human NKG2D [PDF]
UL16-binding proteins [ULBPs, also termed as retinoic acid early transcripts (RAET1) molecules] are frequently expressed by malignant transformed cells and stimulate anti-tumor immune responses mediated by NKG2D-positive NK cells, CD8(+) alphabeta T cells and gammadelta T cells in vitro and in vivo.

Flavones and Aminoflavones Increase the Cytotoxicity of NK Cells in Human Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Natural flavonoids (flavones) and synthetic aminoflavones are known for their anti‐cancer properties; however, their immunomodulation ability has been largely unexplored. This study determined that synthetic flavones and aminoflavones modulate the cytotoxicity of natural killer (NK) cells against lung cancer cells.

A Grammar for Representing Uniform Local Binary Patterns (ULBP) [PDF]
One of the recently invented theoretically simple and efficient operators that is playing a significant role in image processing, pattern recognition and other domains is the Local Binary Pattern (LBP). LBP measures the local texture features on a given neighbourhood efficiently.

Two Human ULBP/RAET1 Molecules with Transmembrane Regions Are Ligands for NKG2D [PDF]
Abstract We characterized two novel members of the RAET1/ULBP gene cluster, RAET1E and RAET1G. The encoded proteins were similar to the ULBP in their class I-like α1 and α2 domains, but differed in that, instead of being GPI-anchored, their sequences were type 1 membrane-spanning molecules.

Downregulation and/or Release of NKG2D Ligands as Immune Evasion Strategy of Human Neuroblastoma
Neuroblastoma (NB) is a pediatric extracranial tumor characterized by downregulation of human leukocyte antigen class I and defects of the antigen processing machinery, two features that make it an appropriate target for natural killer (NK)-mediated ...

Expression and prognostic significance of unique ULBPs in pancreatic cancer
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal cancers worldwide, due to the lack of efficient therapy and difficulty in early diagnosis. ULBPs have been shown to behave as important protectors with prognostic significance in various cancers.Immunohistochemistry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were used to explore the expression of ULBPs in cancer ...

Occlusion Invariant Palmprint Recognition with ULBP Histograms
AbstractThis work presents a palmprint recognition approach based on the local distribution of uniform patterns. Preprocessing segments palmprint region from foreground of image as well as aligns the palmprint along the line between tips of middle finger and mid of wrist. Palmprint texture has line and wrinkles like features which are a type of uniform
