No specific impact of ultra-high dose rates on radiation-induced chromosome rearrangements [PDF]
Scientific ReportsIonizing radiation generates DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) that challenge DNA repair mechanisms and drive mutagenesis, chromosome rearrangements, and cell lethality. These features underlie its application in cancer therapy.

Survival of tumor cells after proton irradiation with ultra-high dose rates [PDF]
Radiation Oncology, 2011 Background Laser acceleration of protons and heavy ions may in the future be used in radiation therapy. Laser-driven particle beams are pulsed and ultra high dose rates of >109 Gy s-1may be achieved.

Refractory ultra–high-risk Choriocarcinoma achieving complete response to intensive multi-agent and intrathecal chemotherapy and anti–PD-L1 therapy [PDF]
Gynecologic Oncology ReportsBackground: Choriocarcinoma is a highly aggressive gestational trophoblastic neoplasm. Patients with ultra-high-risk disease (FIGO score ≥ 13) and brain metastases face cure rates of only 50–80% and require intensive multimodal therapy.

The FLASH Effect—An Evaluation of Preclinical Studies of Ultra-High Dose Rate Radiotherapy
Frontiers in OncologyFLASH radiotherapy (FLASH-RT) is a novel radiotherapy approach based on the use of ultra-high dose radiation to treat malignant cells. Although tumours can be reduced or eradicated using radiotherapy, toxicities induced by radiation can compromise ...

Radiobiology experiments with a laser driven x-ray source: Exploring the UHDR regime [PDF]
EPJ Web of Conferences, 2023 Laser Driven Plasma Accelerators (LDPA) can generate both characteristic and Bremsstrahlung x-rays in ultrashort bunches. Because of the high intensity of the laser pulses, these laser-induced x-ray sources can achieve peak dose rates compatible with the

Intertrack interaction at ultra-high dose rates and its role in the FLASH effect
Frontiers in Physics, 2023 Background: The mechanism responsible for the FLASH effect remains undetermined yet critical to the clinical translation of FLASH radiotherapy. The potential role of intertrack interactions in the FLASH effect, arising from the high spatio-temporal ...
