On the opening of voltage-gated ion channels
Physiology & Behavior, 2007Voltage-gated ion channels are key players in fast neuronal signalling. Detailed knowledge about channel gating is essential for our understanding of channel function in general and of drug action of channels in particular. Despite a number of recent atomic channel structures, the opening of voltage-gated channels is the subject of heated debates. Here

Structure and Function of Voltage-Gated Ion Channels
Annual Review of Biochemistry, 1993The principal subunits of the voltage-gated Na+, Ca2+ and K+ channels are members of a related gene family and are functionally autonomous in voltage-dependent activation, ion conductance and inactivation. In this article, recent work locating the structural elements that are responsible for these three basic functions of the voltage-gated ion channels

Extracellular Surface Charges in Voltage-Gated Ion Channels
Physiology, 2000A large number of charged amino acids are in the extracellularly located parts of the voltage-gated ion channels. Recent findings suggest that these surface charges contribute to the channel functions in the sensing of voltage, the binding of substances, and the sensing of H+ concentration.

Insecticides Affecting Voltage-Gated Ion Channels
2001In this chapter the term insecticides is used in its broadest sense and refers to any category of chemical compounds (from low molecular weight organics to globular polypeptides) of either synthetic or natural origin which is processed/designed by either chemical or genetic manipulations to provide a device for large-scale insect control.
