Production of xylitol by expressing xylitol dehydrogenase and alcohol dehydrogenase from Gluconobacter thailandicus and co-biotransformation of whole cells

Bioresource Technology, 2018
In the present study, recombinant strains were constructed for xylitol production by cloning and expressing the novel xylitol dehydrogenase (xdh) and alcohol dehydrogenase (adh) genes in E. coli BL21 (DE3) from Gluconobacter thailandicus CGMCC1.3748.

Xylitol production by NAD+-dependent xylitol dehydrogenase (xdhA)- and l-arabitol-4-dehydrogenase (ladA)-disrupted mutants of Aspergillus oryzae

Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 2013
Aspergillus oryzae can metabolize xylan to d-xylose and d-xylose to xylitol. However, accumulation of xylitol is controlled by dehydrogenases, such as xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH) and l-arabitol-4-dehydrogenase (LAD), and fluxed into the pentose phosphate pathway. In A. oryzae, XDH and LAD are encoded by xdhA and ladA, respectively.

Enhancement of xylitol production by attenuation of intracellular xylitol dehydrogenase activity in Candida tropicalis

Biotechnology Letters, 2011
To construct Candida tropicalis strains that produce a high yield of xylitol with no requirement for co-substrates, we engineered the yeast with an attenuated xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH) and then assessed the efficiency of xylitol production The mutants, strains XDH-5 (with only one copy of the XDH gene), and ARSdR-16 (with a mutated XDH gene) showed ...

Characterization of xylitol dehydrogenase from debaryomyces hansenii

Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1996
The xylitol dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.9) from xylose-grown cells ofDebaryomyces hansenii was partially purified in two Chromatographic steps, and characterization studies were carried out in order to inves tigate the role of the xylitol dehydrogenase-catalyzed step in the regu lation of D-xylose metabolism.

Enhanced xylitol production: Expression of xylitol dehydrogenase from Gluconobacter oxydans and mixed culture of resting cell

Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 2016
Xylitol has numerous applications in food and pharmaceutical industry, and it can be biosynthesized by microorganisms. In the present study, xdh gene, encoding xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH), was cloned from the genome of Gluconobacter oxydans CGMCC 1.49 and overexpressed in Escherichia coli BL21.
