AbstractThe effect of the inoculum age and initial xylose concentration on the activities of xylose reductase (XR) and xylitol dehydrogenase (XD) of Candida guilliermondii FTI 20037 were investigated. Under the experimental conditions used, the XR and XD activities were, respectively. NADPH and NAD or NADP dependent. The NADP/NADPH ratio for XR was not

The biotransformation of D-arabitol into xylitol was investigated with focus on the conversion of D-xylulose into xylitol. This critical conversion was accomplished using Escherichia coli to co-express a xylitol dehydrogenase gene from Gluconobacter oxydans and a cofactor regeneration enzyme gene which was a glucose dehydrogenase gene from Bacillus ...

Cloning and characterization of a thermostable xylitol dehydrogenase from Rhizobium etli CFN42
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2010An NAD(+)-dependent xylitol dehydrogenase from Rhizobium etli CFN42 (ReXDH) was cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli. The DNA sequence analysis revealed an open reading frame of 1,044 bp, capable of encoding a polypeptide of 347 amino acid residues with a calculated molecular mass of 35,858 Da.

Abstract Due to its anticariogenic properties, the five-carbon sugar alcohol xylitol is finding increasing use in food industry as a functional sweetener. Although xylitol is currently manufactured by the chemical reduction of xylose, its biological production would be attractive because of lower costs and better organoleptic features.

Cloning and characterization of thermotolerant xylitol dehydrogenases from yeast Pichia angusta
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2010Pichia angusta (syn. Hansenula polymorpha) represents one of the rare yeast that can grow and ferment both xylose and glucose at higher temperature (50°C). However, little is known about the enzymes involved in xylose utilization from this species. Previous studies indicated the presence of one xylose reductase and two xylitol dehydrogenase genes in P.

We cloned and successfully expressed the gene for xylitol dehydrogenase from Galactocandida mastotermitis in Escherichia coli. The amino acid sequence revealed that the enzyme belongs to the superfamily of zinc containing, medium-chain alcohol dehydrogenases.

Cloning and expression of a NAD+-dependent xylitol dehydrogenase gene (xdhA) of Aspergillus oryzae
Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 2004XdhA, which encodes a xylitol dehydrogenase gene, was cloned from Aspergillus oryzae genomic DNA. It consists of 1214 bp structural region, which is interrupted by two introns, and encodes 358-amino-acid protein (38,197 Da). It is similar to the known NAD(+)-dependent xylitol dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.9).

A mutant ribitol dehydrogenase (RDH-F) was purified from Klebsiella aerogenes strain F which evolved from the wild-type strain A under selective pressure to improve growth on xylitol, a poor substrate used as sole carbon source. The ratio of activities on xylitol (500 mM) and ribitol (50 mM) was 0.154 for RDH-F compared to 0.033 for the wild-type (RDH ...
