Enzymatic Synthesis of Hydroquinoneβ-Xyloside from Xylooligosaccharides [PDF]

open access: yesBioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 1994
beta-Xylosidase of Aspergillus pulverulentus catalyzes a transxylosylation reaction from xylooligosaccharides to acceptor hydroquinone. Two transfer products were purified and their structures were examined. These were identified as hydroquinone beta-(1-->4)-xyloside and hydroquinone 4-O-(beta-xylosyl)-beta-xyloside.

Glycan complexity dictates microbial resource allocation in the large intestine. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The structure of the human gut microbiota is controlled primarily through the degradation of complex dietary carbohydrates, but the extent to which carbohydrate breakdown products are shared between members of the microbiota is unclear.

Utilization of xylooligosaccharides by selected ruminal bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1993
The ability of ruminal bacteria to utilize xylooligosaccharides was examined. Xylooligosaccharides were prepared by partially hydrolyzing oat spelt xylan in phosphoric acid. This substrate solution was added (0.2%, wt/vol) to a complex medium containing yeast extract and Trypticase that was inoculated with individual species of ruminal bacteria, and ...

Preparation and nutritional properties of xylooligosaccharide from agricultural and forestry byproducts: A comprehensive review

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
Xylooligosaccharide (XOS) are functional oligosaccharides with prebiotic activities, which originate from lignocellulosic biomass and have attracted extensive attention from scholars in recent years.

Catabolism Mechanism and Growth-Promoting Effect of Xylooligosaccharides in Lactiplantibacillus plantarum Strain B20

open access: yesFermentation
Prebiotics are food ingredients that result in specific changes in the composition and/or activity of the gastrointestinal microbiota, thus conferring benefits upon host health. Xylooligosaccharides (XOS) are prebiotic fibers made from xylan.

Molecular and Biochemical Characterization of a Bimodular Xylanase From Marinifilaceae Bacterium Strain SPP2

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
In this study, the first xylantic enzyme from the family Marinifilaceae, XynSPP2, was identified from Marinifilaceae bacterium strain SPP2. Amino acid sequence analysis revealed that XynSPP2 is a rare Fn3-fused xylanase, consisting of a signal peptide, a

Enzymatic production of Xylooligosaccharide from selected agricultural wastes

open access: yesFood and Bioproducts Processing, 2009
Abstract Four different agricultural wastes, namely tobacco stalk (TS), cotton stalk (CS), sunflower stalk (SS) and wheat straw (WS) were tested for the production of Xylooligosaccharide (XO). XO production was performed by enzymatic hydrolysis of xylans which were obtained by alkali extraction from the agricultural wastes.

Prebiotics: Ignored player in the fight against cancer

open access: yesCancer Reports, 2023
Background Prebiotics is a relatively neglected area in cancer research, despite evidence suggesting that it plays a key role in suppressing tumour growth and improving immune function.

Xylooligosaccharides as prebiotics from biomass autohydrolyzate

open access: yesLWT, 2019
Abstract With an increased awareness of health and wellness, prebiotics have received a great amount of attention recently. In this study, autohydrolyzate from hot water treatment of Miscanthus lignocellulosic biomass was evaluated for its prebiotic effect by fermentation of Lactobacillus brevis strain.
