Cteno‐Bot: An Untethered Metachronally Swimming Robot With Magnetoactive Propulsors

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
We present Cteno‐bot, an untethered ctenophore‐inspired robot which swims using metachronally coordinated appendages. A single mechanism controls up to 216 magnetoactive propulsors via a dynamically varying magnetic field. We show that the swimming speed of the robot can be increased without a corresponding increase in power requirement, simply by ...

Data-driven design of model-free control for reference model tracking based on an ultra-local model: Application to vehicle yaw rate control

open access: yesProceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering
Lateral vehicle dynamics control is important for autonomous driving. This paper presents a data-driven design of model-referenced model-free control (DD-MR-MFC) based on an ultra-local model for vehicle yaw rate control. The characteristics of lateral vehicle dynamics systems depend on vehicle velocities and weights.

Asymmetric Whisker‐Inspired Sensor Pairs for Enhanced Airflow Sensing on Drones

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work incorporates asymmetric cross‐sections into a whisker‐inspired sensor pair to enhance airflow sensing. By comparing signals between two offset asymmetric whiskers, the system improves flow heading estimation and identifies the presence of fan‐generated wind during quadrotor flight.

The direct yaw-moment control based on adaptive fuzzy LQR for distributed drive electric vehicles

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering
This paper introduced a hierarchical control strategy for direct yaw moment (DYC) to enhance the handling and stability of distributed drive electric vehicles (DDEVs) at medium to high speeds. The upper controller entailed a speed-following PI controller

Motion and Morphology Planning for Autonomous Manipulation in Clutter With a Shape‐Shifting, Variable‐Stiffness Robot

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A hybrid mobile robot with a modular Variable‐Stiffness Bridge transitions between a rigid locomotion platform and a flexible, shape‐conforming body. By enclosing objects within its deformable structure rather than relying on dedicated end effectors, the robot achieves orientation‐regulated planar transport, with conformal contact quality shown to ...

Robust Path Tracking Control with Lateral Dynamics Optimization: A Focus on Sideslip Reduction and Yaw Rate Stability Using Linear Quadratic Regulator and Genetic Algorithms

open access: yesVehicles
Currently, one of the most important challenges facing autonomous vehicles’ development due to varying driving conditions is effective path tracking while considering lateral stability. To address this issue, this study proposes the optimization of the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) control system by using the genetic algorithm (GA) to support the ...

Variable grouping patterns in primates: A test of the better competitor hypothesis in male Verreaux's sifaka (Propithecus verreauxi)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Intraspecific variation in social organization (IVSO) within primate populations can arise due to male mating competition. Verreaux's sifaka (Propithecus verreauxi) populations exhibit both single‐male and multi‐male groups, providing an opportunity to examine the relationship between male competitive ability and social organization.
