Sca-1 is involved in the adhesion of myosphere cells to αVβ3 integrin
Summary A myosphere cell is a unique type of muscle stem cell that is able to maintain its pre-myogenic state in culture over time. These cells are propagated in culture as free-floating, non-adherent spheres.

Intracellular pathways involved in bone regeneration triggered by recombinant silk-silica chimeras [PDF]
Biomineralization at the organic-inorganic interface is critical to many biology material functions in vitro and in vivo. Recombinant silk-silica fusion peptides are organic-inorganic hybrid material systems that can be effectively used to study and ...

This work develops dynamically softening polyacrylamide hydrogels for time‐resolved imaging during continuous mechanical transitions. The study revealed that mechanotransduction is biphasic; YAP/TAZ inactivation is driven by early loss of the nucleocytoskeletal continuum connecting subnuclear adhesions, F‐actin, and the nuclear envelope, coupled with ...

Identification of integrin drug targets for 17 solid tumor types. [PDF]
Integrins are contributors to remodeling of the extracellular matrix and cell migration. Integrins participate in the assembly of the actin cytoskeleton, regulate growth factor signaling pathways, cell proliferation, and control cell motility.

An integrin-targeted photoactivatable Pt(IV) complex as a selective anticancer pro-drug: synthesis and photoactivation studies [PDF]
A new anticancer agent based on the conjugation of a photoactivatable Pt(IV) pro-drug to a cyclic RGD-containing peptide is described. Upon visible light irradiation, phototoxicity was induced preferentially in SK-MEL-28 melanoma cancer cells ...

Prolonged exposure to stiff extracellular matrix drives cancer‐associated fibroblasts into a persistently activated myofibroblast state. Two parallel pathways are identified: β1 integrin activation smoothens the nuclear lamina to reduce lamin–chromatin contacts, while the formin mDia2 regulates nuclear actin to alter chromatin organization.

Pharmacologic inhibition of RGD-binding integrins ameliorates fibrosis and improves function following kidney injury [PDF]
Fibrosis is a final common pathway for many causes of progressive chronic kidney disease (CKD). Arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD)-binding integrins are important mediators of the pro-fibrotic response by activating latent TGF-β at sites of injury and ...

Targeting αvβ3 and αvβ5 integrins inhibits pulmonary metastasis in an intratibial xenograft osteosarcoma mouse model [PDF]
Osteosarcoma is an aggressive bone cancer that has a high propensity for metastasis to the lungs. Patients with metastatic disease face a very poor prognosis.

The 3D culture of human adipose‐derived stem cells (hADSCs) on a crosslinked cyclosiloxane‐based poly‐Z matrix platform enables the formation of spheroid structures enriched with extracellular matrix (ECM). These ECM‐enriched hADSC spheroids cultured on poly‐Z exhibit enhanced differentiation potential, immunomodulatory capacity, and in vivo ...
