Site-directed mutation of β-galactosidase from Streptococcus thermophilus for galactooligosaccharide-enriched yogurt making

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2022
: β-Galactosidase is one of the most important enzymes used in dairy processing. It converts lactose into glucose and galactose, and also catalyzes galactose to form galactooligosaccharides (GOS), so-called prebiotics.

Identification of bacteria with β-galactosidase activity in faeces from lactase non-persistent subjects [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Ecology, 2005
Previous studies suggest that, besides the maldigestion of lactose in the small intestine, the colonic processing of lactose might play a role in lactose intolerance. beta-Galactosidase is the bacterial enzyme which catalyzes the first step of lactose fermentation in the colon.

Isolation and Identification of Beta-galactosidase Producing Yeasts From Some Dairy Products [PDF]

open access: yesFayoum Journal of Agricultural Research and Development
Twenty-two β-galactosidase-producing yeast isolates were isolated from local dairy products. The purified isolates were evaluated for their β-galactosidase activity to identify the most productive isolates for subsequent investigations. The isolates were

α-Galactosidase A fromPseudomonas fluorescenssubsp.cellulosa: cloning, high level expression and its role in galactomannan hydrolysis [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2000
A library of Pseudomonas fluorescens subsp. cellulosa genomic DNA, constructed in lambda ZAPII, was screened for alpha-D-galactosidase activity. The DNA inserts from six galactosidase-positive clones were rescued into plasmids. Restriction digestion and Southern analysis revealed that each of the plasmids contained a common DNA sequence.

ALGINATE COATED MgO-NPs IMPROVES THE STABILITY OF Kluyveromyces lactis β-GALACTOSIDASE FOR BIOTECHNOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2023
The current study was undertaken to immobilize Kluveromyces lactis β-galactosidase on alginate coated magnesium oxide nanoparticles (ACMONPs). Transmission electron microscopy showed that MgO-NPs synthesized by wet chemical approach were of 27 nm size ...

Modeling of the simultaneous hydrolysis-ultrafiltration of whey permeate by a thermostable β-galactosidase from Aspergillus niger

open access: yes, 2005
A wild type strain of Aspergillus niger, denoted as BTL, produced elevated levels of β-galactosidase when grown in a low cost medium that contained wheat bran as the sole carbon and energy source.

A β-Galactosidase-Based Bacterial Two-Hybrid System To Assess Protein−Protein Interactions in the Correct Cellular Environment

open access: yes, 2007
The vast majority of proteins functions in complex with one or more of the same or other proteins, indicating that protein−protein interactions play crucial roles in biology.

Invited review: Properties of β-galactosidases derived from Lactobacillaceae species and their capacity for galacto-oligosaccharide production

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2023
: β-galactosidase (enzymatic class 3.2.1.23) is one of the dairy industry's most important and widely used enzymes. The enzyme is part of a large family known to catalyze hydrolysis and transglycosylation reactions.

Senescence Associated β-galactosidase Staining

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2012
Detection of senescent cells using a cytochemical assay was first described in 1995 (Dimri et al., 1995). The identification of senescent cells is based on an increased level of lysosomal β-galactosidase activity (Kurz et al., 2000).

EXTRACTION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF Î’-GALACTOSIDASE ENZYME FROM ZIZIPHUS SPINA-CHRISTI FOR FOOD APPLICATIONS

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Research
Galactosidaseis an industrially important enzymewitha number of applications in dairy, fermentation, and food industries. The study was carried out to extract and characterize the galactosidase enzymefromZiziphusspina-christi,a therapeutic herb. The enzyme was studied for pH, temperature sensitivity, and heavy metal effects on enzyme activity.
