Bacterial resistance is a serious threat to human health. The production of β-lactamase, which inactivates β-lactams is most common cause of resistance to the β-lactam antibiotics.

Aims Amoxicillin, a widely used β‐lactam antibiotic, requires improved pharmacokinetic characterization during breastfeeding. This study used a population pharmacokinetic (PopPK) approach to model amoxicillin concentrations in breast milk, identify variability sources and estimate infant exposure, applying worst‐case scenarios.

The porin and the permeating antibiotic: A selective diffusion barrier in gram-negative bacteria [PDF]
Gram-negative bacteria are responsible for a large proportion of antibiotic resistant bacterial diseases. These bacteria have a complex cell envelope that comprises an outer membrane and an inner membrane that delimit the periplasm.

Medicare Part D and Hospital Admissions due to Antimicrobial Resistance
ABSTRACT Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has been increasing rapidly in the United States despite government efforts to contain its spread. Both under‐utilization and overuse of prescribed antimicrobials contribute to rising resistance. The introduction of Medicare Part D in 2006 expanded prescription drug coverage for the elderly, including coverage ...

Dual RNase and β-lactamase Activity of a Single Enzyme Encoded in Archaea
β-lactam antibiotics have a well-known activity which disturbs the bacterial cell wall biosynthesis and may be cleaved by β-lactamases. However, these drugs are not active on archaea microorganisms, which are naturally resistant because of the lack of β ...

ABSTRACT Surgical antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP) is crucial in preventing postoperative surgical site infections (SSIs), especially in clean and clean‐contaminated surgeries. It was a prospective comparative observational study that compared the effectiveness and safety of single‐dose ceftriaxone monotherapy with amoxicillin–clavulanic acid as a ...

Potent monoclonal antibodies against multidrug‐resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae
A novel immunization strategy using a low‐virulence, multidrug‐resistant strain yields synergistic monoclonal antibodies against hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae. These antibodies provide cross‐serotype protection through a dual‐mechanism of pathogen clearance and immunomodulation, offering a promising non‐antibiotic therapeutic for resistant ...

Evaluation of Cefixime-Clavulanate Combination by Comparative Disk Diffusion Method in Klebsiella pneumoniae Clinical Isolates-An In-Vitro Study [PDF]
Background: Resistance to cephalosporins due to β-lactamases is a major concern worldwide. However recent trend is to use β-lactamase inhibitor combinations. Potential combination is cefiximeclavulanate.

Multi-drug resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa harbor a complex array of β-lactamases and non-enzymatic resistance mechanisms. In this study, the activity of a β-lactam/β-lactam-enhancer, cefepime/zidebactam, and novel β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor ...
