Freezing Out Vavilov's Rule: Temperature‐Dependent Fluorescence of a Rhodanine Dye

open access: yesChemPhotoChem, Volume 10, Issue 2, February 2026.
Anomalous fluorescence behavior of a rhodanine‐based dye is revealed: weak emission at room temperature becomes intense at 77 K. The fluorescence quantum yield strongly depends on excitation wavelength, breaking Vavilov's rule. Quantum chemical studies show a delicate interplay between bright ππ* and dark nπ* states that governs this behavior.
