Serum 24S-hydroxycholesterol and hippocampal size in middle-aged normal individuals
The present study assessed the association between serum 24S-hydroxycholesterol (24S-OH-Chol) and 27-hydroxycholesterol (27-OH-Chol) and hippocampal volumes in 69 middle-aged cognitively normal individuals. Results showed that subjects with high levels of oxysterols had significantly larger hippocampal volumes than subjects with low levels of ...

Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry and mass spectrometry imaging were used in combination with deuterium oxide administration to quantify and localise newly synthesised myelin lipids in the mouse brain. This methodology, used here to show sites of myelin repair, enables the measurement of dynamic lipid synthesis in living systems and ...

Simultaneous determination of oxysterols, cholesterol and 25-hydroxy-vitamin D3 in human plasma by LC-UV-MS. [PDF]
Oxysterols are promising biomarkers of neurodegenerative diseases that are linked with cholesterol and vitamin D metabolism. There is an unmet need for methods capable of sensitive, and simultaneous quantitation of multiple oxysterols, vitamin D and ...

Role of platelet-derived growth factor B in cholesterol and glucose metabolism [PDF]
Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGFB) is a critical molecule for recruiting pericytes. Due to the fundamental role of the pericytes in angiogenesis and vascular stability, PDGFB knockout mice die perinatally from severe hemorrhage and edema.

Metabolism of 27-, 25- and 24-hydroxycholesterol in rat glial cells and neurons [PDF]
The metabolism of 27-, 25- and 24-hydroxycholesterol in cultures of rat astrocytes, Schwann cells and neurons was studied. 27- and 25-Hydroxycholesterol, but not 24-hydroxycholesterol, underwent 7α-hydroxylation with subsequent oxidation to 7α-hydroxy-3-oxo-Δ4 steroids in all three cell types.

Molecular basis for the recognition of 24-(S)-hydroxycholesterol by integrin αvβ3
A growing body of evidence suggests that oxysterols such as 25-hydroxycholesterol (25HC) are biologically active and involved in many physiological and pathological processes.

Role of necroptosis in the pathogenesis of solid organ injury [PDF]
Necroptosis is a type of regulated cell death dependent on the activity of receptor-interacting serine/threonine-protein (RIP) kinases. However, unlike apoptosis, it is caspase independent.

Cholesterol and oxysterol sulfates:Pathophysiological roles and analytical challenges [PDF]
Cholesterol and oxysterol sulfates are important regulators of lipid metabolism, inflammation, cell apoptosis, and cell survival. Among the sulfate-based lipids, cholesterol sulfate (CS) is the most studied lipid both quantitatively and functionally ...

Soticlestat as adjunctive therapy for Lennox–Gastaut syndrome. Abstract Objective There remains a need for new treatments for Lennox–Gastaut syndrome (LGS), a developmental and epileptic encephalopathy with a heterogenous patient population that often requires polytherapy. The phase 3, randomized SKYWAY study (NCT04938427) investigated the efficacy and
