Genetic detection and characterization of Lujo virus, a new hemorrhagic fever-associated arenavirus from southern Africa. [PDF]
Lujo virus (LUJV), a new member of the family Arenaviridae and the first hemorrhagic fever-associated arenavirus from the Old World discovered in three decades, was isolated in South Africa during an outbreak of human disease characterized by nosocomial ...

Inhibitors of the Machupo Virus L Endonuclease for Bolivian Hemorrhagic Fever Treatments
Machupo virus (MACV) is the causal agent of Bolivian Hemorrhagic fever. It is highly pathogenic, has a high mortality rate, and currently lacks specific treatments or vaccines. MACV belongs to the Arenaviridae family, which uses a cap-snatching mechanism

A novel mammarenavirus (family Arenaviridae) in hedgehogs (Erinaceus roumanicus) in Europe
AbstractIn this study, a novel mammarenavirus (family Arenaviridae) was identified in a hedgehog (family Erinaceidae) in Hungary and genetically characterized. Mecsek Mountains virus (MEMV, OP191655, OP191656) was detected in nine (45%) out of 20 faecal specimens collected from a Northern white-breasted hedgehog (Erinaceus roumanicus).

Genetic Evidence for a Tacaribe Serocomplex Virus, Mexico
We isolated arenavirus RNA from white-toothed woodrats (Neotoma leucodon) captured in a region of Mexico in which woodrats are food for humans. Analyses of nucleotide and amino acid sequence data indicated that the woodrats were infected with a novel ...

Outbreak of lassa fever in Nigeria: measures for prevention and control
Lassa fever, an acute viral haemorrhagic fever, extremely virulent and often infectious, occurs very frequently in different parts of Nigeria [1-4] and affects approximately 100,000-500,000 persons per year in West Africa.

Strategic Preparedness of Broad‐Spectrum Antivirals for Rapid Response Towards Next Pandemics
Nanoengineered broad‐spectrum antivirals (BSAs) represent a transformative approach to pandemic preparedness. Unlike virus‐specific drugs requiring separate development, BSAs act across multiple viral families through nanoengineering strategies that enhance solubility, bioavailability, and host‐targeted activity.
