Bile acid biosynthesis during development: hydroxylation of C27-sterols in human fetal liver.
Several hydroxylase activities in bile acid biosynthesis were assayed in subcellular fractions of human fetal liver. The livers were obtained at legal abortions performed between gestational weeks 14 and 24.

This study identifies palmitoylation as a novel regulatory modification of SMAD4, mediated by ZDHHC22/APT2. It activates fatty acid synthesis, creating a self‐reinforcing SMAD4–FASN–palmitate feedback loop that drives pancreatic cancer growth and enhances radiotherapy sensitivity.

Cholestasis impairs gut microbiota development and bile salt hydrolase activity in preterm neonates
Cholestasis refers to impaired bile flow from the liver to the intestine. In neonates, cholestasis causes poor growth and may progress to liver failure and death.

A Microbial Lipid‐ATP Synthase Axis Fuels NK Cell Antitumor Activity
This study focuses on the mechanism by which gut microbiota‐derived outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) regulate NK cell antitumor activity. B. intestinalis is identified to decrease extra‐intestinal tumor growth via its OMVs enriched in sphingosine (SP).

Multidrug‐resistant Vibrio infections are rising rapidly and threaten coastal populations worldwide. This study introduces D‐zp37, a chirality‐engineered antimicrobial peptide with exceptional potency against resistant Vibrio species. D‐zp37 kills planktonic cells, blocks mixed‐species biofilms, disrupts essential bacterial stress responses, and shows ...

An optimized ex vivo human liver slice culture system preserves tissue architecture, hepatocyte function, and immune‐stromal complexity for at least five days. By refining slice thickness, oxygenation, air‐liquid interface, and extracellular matrix support, the platform enables human‐relevant hepatotoxicity testing and mechanistic studies, offering a ...

A sulfated polysaccharide (SCP) from Cyclocarya paliurus alleviates ulcerative colitis by reshaping the gut microbiome. This remodeled microbiota orchestrates the upregulation of the host‐derived lipid 12‐HEPE, which directly inhibits the TLR4/NF‐κB pathway to suppress inflammation.
