Methotrexate induces CerS6-dependent formation of ER membrane aggregates in A549 non-small cell lung carcinoma cells.

open access: yes, 2016
(A) Treatment with MTX (10 nM) resulted in the increase of autophagosome number, but CerS6 was not associated with these organelles. (B) MTX (10 nM) induced aggregation of ER membranes and the accumulation of CerS6 in the aggregates.

Exacerbation of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis in ceramide synthase 6 knockout mice is associated with enhanced activation/migration of neutrophils

open access: yes, 2022
S.825-836Ceramides are mediators of inflammatory processes. In experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), an animal model of multiple sclerosis (MS), we observed that CerS6 mRNA expression was upregulated 15-fold in peripheral blood leukocytes ...

Periplocymarin Alleviates Doxorubicin-Induced Heart Failure and Excessive Accumulation of Ceramides

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
Doxorubicin-driven cardiotoxicity could result in dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure (HF). Previously, we showed that periplocymarin exerted a cardiotonic role by promoting calcium influx and attenuating myocardial fibrosis induced by isoproterenol

From correlation to causation: cell‐type‐specific gene regulatory networks in Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Alzheimer's disease (AD) involves complex regulatory disruptions across multiple brain cell types, yet the comprehensive intracellular causal mechanisms remain poorly understood. METHODS We present an integrative analysis framework using single‐nucleus transcriptomics with matched subject‐level genotype data from 272 AD patients ...

Proteomic analysis of the zone of degeneration at the mitosis–meiosis transition stage in wild‐caught male catshark (Scyliorhinus canicula), correlated with an unusually high‐water temperature in the English Channel

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 108, Issue 2, Page 676-693, February 2026.
Abstract In the context of current global change, variations in water temperature are one of the environmental conditions with serious consequences for marine life, including reproductive processes. In the small spotted catshark Scyliorhinus canicula, spermatogenesis occurs in spermatocysts composed of synchronously developing germ cells associated ...

Exonic Re-Sequencing of the Chromosome 2q24.3 Parkinson's Disease Locus. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in Parkinson's disease (PD) have identified over 20 genomic regions associated with disease risk. Many of these loci include several candidate genes making it difficult to pinpoint the causal gene.

Sphingolipids in Emotional Well‐Being

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 2, February 2026.
Sphingolipids are essential constituents of neuronal membranes and are increasingly recognized as contributors to the key behavioral manifestations associated with emotional well‐being. ABSTRACT Emotional well‐being is a multifactorial concept, which comprises not only life quality of human individuals, but also their mental and physical health.

A Somatic Mutation in HIF‐2α Affects Glucose and Lipid Metabolism via CD36 and Ceramide

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 1, 15 January 2026.
A mutation within the C‐terminal transactivation domain of HIF‐2α enhances Cd36 expression by increased transactivation activity, leading to ceramide accumulation and disruption of glucose and lipid metabolism. Inhibition of ceramide synthesis by myriocin reduces ceramide levels and ameliorates these metabolic disturbances.

C16-ceramide and sphingosine 1-phosphate/S1PR2 have opposite effects on cell growth through mTOR signaling pathway regulation

open access: yes, 2021
Recently, sphingolipid derivatives, such as ceramide and sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P), have emerged as key modulators in apoptotic cell death and cell proliferation.

Cytochrome c oxidase deficiency accelerates mitochondrial apoptosis by activating ceramide synthase 6 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Although numerous pathogenic changes within the mitochondrial respiratory chain (RC) have been associated with an elevated occurrence of apoptosis within the affected tissues, the mechanistic insight into how mitochondrial dysfunction initiates apoptotic
