Impact of Intended Isocaloric Early versus Late Time‐Restricted Eating on Plasma Lipidome in Women with Overweight or Obesity: Secondary Analysis of the ChronoFast Trial

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 4, 19 January 2026.
Women with overweight or obesity follow intended isocaloric early and late time‐restricted eating (TRE) in a crossover trial. Shotgun plasma lipidomics reveals no significant differences between interventions, but identify pronounced lipid changes—including reductions in ceramides and phosphatidylcholines—within the early TRE.

Activation of the unfolded protein response pathway causes ceramide accumulation in yeast and INS-1E insulinoma cells

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2012
Sphingolipids are not only important components of membranes but also have functions in protein trafficking and intracellular signaling. The LCB1 gene encodes a subunit of the serine palmitoyltransferase, which is responsible for the first step of ...

Machine learning model identifies genetic predictors of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity in CERS6 and TLR4

open access: yesComputers in Biology and Medicine
Cisplatin-induced ototoxicity remains a significant concern in pediatric cancer treatment due to its permanent impact on quality of life. Previously, genetic association analyses have been performed to detect genetic variants associated with this adverse reaction. In this study, a combination of interpretable neural networks and Generative Adversarial ...

The physiological and pathological effects of sphingolipid metabolism and signaling in the central nervous system

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 1, January 2026.
Sphingolipids are vital components of cell membranes. Metabolic disruptions of sphingolipids, including ceramide and sphingosine‐1‐phosphate, are linked to neurological disorders. This article summarizes the classification, structure, and metabolic processes of sphingolipids, and the physiological and pathological effects of sphingolipid metabolism and

By activating Fas/ceramide synthase 6/p38 kinase in lipid rafts, stichoposide D inhibits growth of leukemia xenografts. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Stichoposide D (STD) is a marine triterpene glycoside isolated from sea cucumbers. We examined the molecular mechanisms underlying the antitumor activity of STD in human leukemia cells.

Revisiting tricuspid regurgitation: Historical insights and emerging research perspectives

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Investigation, Volume 56, Issue 1, January 2026.
Tricuspid regurgitation (TR), once seen as benign, is now recognized as a serious and increasingly prevalent condition linked to aging and better imaging. Its association with greater morbidity and mortality has shifted clinical perspectives towards early diagnosis and intervention.

The Concise Guide to PHARMACOLOGY 2025/26: Enzymes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue S1, Page S307-S403, December 2025.
The Concise Guide to Pharmacology 2025/26 marks the seventh edition in this series of biennial publications in the British Journal of Pharmacology. Presented in landscape format, the guide provides a comparative overview of the pharmacology of drug target families. The concise nature of the Concise Guide refers to the style of presentation, being clear,

Ceramide Synthase 6 Maximizes p53 Function to Prevent Progeny Formation from Polyploid Giant Cancer Cells

open access: yes, 2021
Polyploid giant cancer cells (PGCC) constitute a transiently senescent subpopulation of cancer cells that arises in response to stress. PGCC are capable of generating progeny via a primitive, cleavage-like cell division that is dependent on the ...

Impact of Nutrition on Sphingolipid‐Regulated Physiology: A Review

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 69, Issue 20, October 2025.
Sphingolipids (SLs) play a role in multiple, if not all physiological processes. This review summarizes the current knowledge on SLs and their role in (patho‐) physiological processes with special regard to dietary and transgenerational effects. Image was created with BioRender.com.

Transcript profiling and lipidomic analysis of ceramide subspecies in mouse embryonic stem cells and embryoid bodies[S]

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2010
Ceramides (Cers) are important in embryogenesis, but no comprehensive analysis of gene expression for Cer metabolism nor the Cer amounts and subspecies has been conducted with an often used model: mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) versus embroid bodies (
