The insider's perspective: The intracellular complosome and immune cell dynamics in cancer

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 2, February 2026.
Intracellular complement (complosome) shapes the tumour immune microenvironment. Complosome's role in cancer is underrecognised yet central to tumour immunity. C3/C5‐driven complosome signals rewire T‐cell activation, fate and metabolism. Complosome activity can promote pro‐tumour immune cell function.

Meningococcal Serogroup Y Meningitis Reveals Inborn Factor B Deficiency

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 56, Issue 2, February 2026.
We report a novel case of complete complement Factor B deficiency revealed by invasive meningococcal disease. Using combined functional and genetic analyses, we demonstrate that loss of Factor B abolishes alternative pathway activity despite detectable protein levels. These findings provide a mechanistic framework relevant to complement diagnostics and

Reprogramming Immunogenicity of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles through Sulfated Glycan Presentation

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 11, 20 February 2026.
This study presents a comparative analysis of heparin (HP)‐ and dextran sulfate (DS)‐coated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) as a tunable immunomodulatory platform where surface chemistry dictates therapeutic function. DS‐SPIONs are preferentially internalized by myeloid cells, reprogramming them into a pro‐healing M2 phenotype ...

Nicotinamide Attenuates Complement and Coagulation Pathways and Resultant Renal Fibrosis

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 23, 15 December 2025.
The coagulation and complement cascades were elevated in the pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and may contribute to both kidney injury and cardiovascular risk. These excessive signals and the associated innate immune responses were suppressed by the NAD+ precursor nicotinamide (NAM).

Soluble C5b‐9 (sC5b‐9) in Pediatrics—A Clinical Assessment

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 39, Issue 23, December 2025.
The sc5b9 assay is a simple laboratory‐developed test that can be used in specific patients to monitor the course of disease, severity, or response to therapy. Future studies using this assay, which show excellent adaptability to a clinical laboratory, will reveal the multiple uses of testing for complement activation.

The Concise Guide to PHARMACOLOGY 2025/26: G protein‐coupled receptors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue S1, Page S24-S151, December 2025.
The Concise Guide to Pharmacology 2025/26 marks the seventh edition in this series of biennial publications in the British Journal of Pharmacology. Presented in landscape format, the guide provides a comparative overview of the pharmacology of drug target families. The concise nature of the Concise Guide refers to the style of presentation, being clear,

The Impact of Complement Factor H‐Related Protein Gene Deletions on Kidney Transplantation

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Immunology, Volume 102, Issue 6, December 2025.
In this study, we found that rs7542235 allele G tags a deletion of the CFHR1 gene. We also found that rs6677604 allele A tags a deletion of the whole CFHR3–1 locus. The plasma proteomics studies show that both variants are associated with an altered expression of FH/FHR proteins thus revealing a novel level of intricate regulation of the complement ...
