Repression of Connexin26 hemichannel activity protects the barrier function of respiratory airway epithelial cells against LPS-induced alteration [PDF]

open access: yesCell Communication and Signaling
In respiratory airway epithelial cells, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment induced an enhancement of connexin 26 (Cx26) hemichannel activity shown by dye uptake experiments after siRNA-mediated knock-down of Cx26.

Clock Genes Regulate the Circadian Expression of Piezo1, TRPV4, Connexin26, and VNUT in an Ex Vivo Mouse Bladder Mucosa. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
ClockΔ19/Δ19 mice is an experimental model mouse for nocturia (NOC). Using the bladder mucosa obtained from ClockΔ19/Δ19 mice, we investigated the gene expression rhythms of mechanosensory cation channels such as transient receptor potential cation ...

Therapeutic effect of Arthrocnemum machrostachyum methanolic extract on Ehrlich solid tumor in mice

open access: yesBMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies, 2020
Background The anti-cancer effect of the halophyte Arthrocnemum indicum, a member of Arthrocnemum family of salt-tolerant plants, was evaluated against colorectal cancer cell, CaCo2.

Conformational changes and CO2-induced channel gating in connexin26. [PDF]

open access: yesStructure, 2022
Connexins form large-pore channels that function either as dodecameric gap junctions or hexameric hemichannels to allow the regulated movement of small molecules and ions across cell membranes.

Connexin30-Deficiency Causes Mild Hearing Loss With the Reduction of Endocochlear Potential and ATP Release

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2022
GJB2 and GJB6 are adjacent genes encoding connexin 26 (Cx26) and connexin 30 (Cx30), respectively, with overlapping expressions in the inner ear. Both genes are associated with the commonest monogenic hearing disorder, recessive isolated deafness DFNB1 ...

CO2 sensing by connexin26 and its role in the control of breathing. [PDF]

open access: yesInterface Focus, 2021
Breathing is essential to provide the O2 required for metabolism and to remove its inevitable CO2 by-product. The rate and depth of breathing is controlled to regulate the excretion of CO2 to maintain the pH of arterial blood at physiological values.

Subcellular Localization of Connexin 26 in Cardiomyocytes and in Cardiomyocyte-Derived Extracellular Vesicles

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Connexins (Cxs) are a family of membrane-spanning proteins, expressed in vertebrates and named according to their molecular weight. They are involved in tissue homeostasis, and they function by acting at several communication levels.

A putative adverse outcome network for neonatal mortality and lower birth weight in rodents: Applicability to per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances and relevance to human health

open access: yesBirth Defects Research, Volume 115, Issue 11, Page 1011-1062, June 15, 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Some per‐ and poly‐fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) cause neonatal mortality and lower birth weight in rodents. We constructed an Adverse Outcome Pathway (AOP) network for neonatal mortality and lower birth weight in rodents, comprising three putative AOPs.

Cytoplasmic localization of connexin 26 suppresses transition of β‐catenin into the nucleus in intestinal‐ and mix‐type gastric cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, Volume 6, Issue 4, Page 505-514, July 2022., 2022
Cytoplasmic Cx26 was found to be a prognostic factor in intestinal‐ and mix‐type gastric cancer. We revealed that cytoplasmic Cx26 inhibits the translocation of β‐catenin to the nucleus. Abstract Background Connexin is a basic molecule that forms gap junctions and undergoes localization changes to the cytoplasm in association with carcinogenesis.

Generation of hiPSC line UMi030-A from an individual with the hearing loss-related GJB2 mutation c.109G > A

open access: yesStem Cell Research, 2022
Genetic variants in the GJB2 gene which encodes for the Connexin 26 protein account for ∼ 60% of cases of genetic hearing loss. A novel hiPSC line was generated from an individual with the hearing loss-related variant c.109G > A in GJB2 leading to the p ...
