Analysis of trafficking, stability and function of human connexin 26 gap junction channels with deafness-causing mutations in the fourth transmembrane helix. [PDF]
Human Connexin26 gene mutations cause hearing loss. These hereditary mutations are the leading cause of childhood deafness worldwide. Mutations in gap junction proteins (connexins) can impair intercellular communication by eliminating protein synthesis ...

Citrus Flavone Tangeretin Inhibits CRPC Cell Proliferation by Regulating Cx26, AKT, and AR Signaling
Prostate cancer (PCa) progression depends on the action of androgen receptors (AR). Therefore, preventing ligand‐mediated activation of AR is the first‐line treatment strategy for metastatic PCa. Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) can inhibit ligand binding to AR and alleviate PCa progression initially.

Opposing modulation of Cx26 gap junctions and hemichannels by CO2
Key points A moderate increase in (55 mmHg) closes Cx26 gap junctions. This effect of CO2 is independent of changes in intra‐ or extracellular pH. The CO2‐dependent closing effect depends on the same residues (K125 and R104) that are required for the CO2‐dependent opening of Cx26 hemichannels.

Replacement of connexin43 by connexin26 in transgenic mice leads to dysfunctional reproductive organs and slowed ventricular conduction in the heart [PDF]
BackgroundIn order to further distinguish unique from general functions of connexin43, we have generated mice in which the coding region of connexin43 was replaced by that of connexin26.ResultsHeterozygous mothers showed impaired mammary gland ...

Free energy and kinetics of cAMP permeation through connexin26 via applied voltage and milestoning. [PDF]
The connexin family is a diverse group of highly regulated wide-pore channels permeable to biological signaling molecules. Despite the critical roles of connexins in mediating selective molecular signaling in health and disease, the basis of molecular ...

Connexin channels and phospholipids: association and modulation
Background For membrane proteins, lipids provide a structural framework and means to modulate function. Paired connexin hemichannels form the intercellular channels that compose gap junction plaques while unpaired hemichannels have regulated functions in

Reduced expression of multiple gap junction proteins is a feature of cervical dysplasia
Cervical dysplasia is a premalignant lesion associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection which, over time, can turn cancerous. Previous studies have indicated that loss of gap junctions may be a feature of cervical cancer and premalignant ...
