German evidence‐ and consensus‐based guideline on the management of penile urethritis

open access: yesJDDG: Journal der Deutschen Dermatologischen Gesellschaft, Volume 23, Issue 2, Page 254-275, February 2025.
Summary Urethritis is a common condition predominantly caused by sexually transmitted pathogens such as Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Mycoplasma genitalium. It is not possible to differentiate with certainty between pathogens on the basis of clinical characteristics alone.

Agricultural Waste–Derived Biochar for Antibiotics Removal in Aqueous Environment: A Comprehensive Outlook

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Increased antibiotic consumption and inadequate management procedures expose the environment to antibiotics, leading to significant antibiotic pollution and emerging antibiotic‐resistant microbes. Biochar form agricultural waste can efficiently remove antibiotics from aquatic environments and is a renewable and cost‐effective adsorbent.

Efficacy and safety of vancomycin compared with those of alternative treatments for methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections: An umbrella review

open access: yesJournal of Evidence-Based Medicine, Volume 17, Issue 4, Page 729-739, December 2024.
Abstract Objective To summarize the evidence on the efficacy and safety of vancomycin compared with those of alternative treatments in adult patients with methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection. Methods PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were searched up to December 15, 2023, for systematic reviews and meta‐analyses comparing ...

Delafloxacin: A Review in Acute Bacterial Skin and Skin Structure Infections [PDF]

open access: yesDrugs, 2020
The global spread of antibacterial-resistant strains, especially methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) for acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSIs), has driven the need for novel antibacterials. Delafloxacin [Quofenix™ (EU); Baxdela® (USA)], a new fluoroquinolone (FQ), has a unique chemical structure that enhances its ...

Mutant prevention concentration of ozenoxacin for quinolone-susceptible or -resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Ozenoxacin (OZN) belongs to a new generation of non-fluorinated quinolones for the topical treatment of skin infections which has shown to be effective in the treatment of susceptible and resistant Gram-positive cocci. The mutant prevention concentration

Searching for “Greener” Bioequivalents of CF3 to Lower its Environmental Impact

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 30, Issue 50, September 5, 2024.
Considering concerns on the negative environmental effects of CF3 containing compounds, we searched for “greener” alternatives. We found −I as the best alternative since it is equivalent in all aspects studied, size, electronic and lipophilic, followed by −F, ‐cyclo‐Pr, −2‐oxetyl, −SF5 and −SCH3. We suggest using these functionalities as an alternative

Activity of delafloxacin against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus: resistance selection and characterization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2012
To determine the potential for delafloxacin to select for resistant mutants in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), including isolates with existing mutations in the quinolone resistance determining region (QRDR).Susceptibility testing by broth microdilution was performed on 30 MRSA clinical isolates.

Chemical structure and pharmacokinetics of novel quinolone agents represented by avarofloxacin, delafloxacin, finafloxacin, zabofloxacin and nemonoxacin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Quinolones are potent antimicrobial agents with a basic chemical structure of bicyclic ring. Fluorine atom at position C-6 and various substitutions on the basic quinolone structure yielded fluoroquinolones, namely norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin ...
