Polyamines Participate in Mycorrhizal and Root Development of Citrus (Citrus tangerine) Seedlings

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca, 2010
A pot experiment was conducted to study the effects of difluoromethylornithine (DFMO, an irreversible inhibitor of putrescine (Put) formation) alone or combination with Put on mycorrhizal and root development of Citrus tangerine seedlings inoculated with

Multitargeted Low-Dose GLAD Combination Chemoprevention: A Novel and Promising Approach to Combat Colon Carcinogenesis

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research, 2013
Preclinical studies have shown that gefitinib, licofelone, atorvastatin, and α-difluoromethylornithine (GLAD) are promising colon cancer chemopreventive agents.

Salmonella Typhimurium employs spermidine to exert protection against ROS-mediated cytotoxicity and rewires host polyamine metabolism to ameliorate its survival in macrophages

open access: yesRedox Biology
Salmonella infection entails a cascade of attacks and defence measures. After breaching the intestinal epithelial barrier, Salmonella is phagocytosed by macrophages, where the bacteria encounter multiple stresses, to which it employs relevant ...

Zinc is required for the expression of ornithine decarboxylase in a difluoromethylornithine-resistant cell line

open access: yes, 1994
Dilution of quiescent L1210-DFMO(r) (difluoromethylornithine-resistant) cells in fresh medium containing serum led to the induction of ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) and to the expression of its mRNA, as determined by a sensitive solution-hybridization ...

Difluoromethylornithine Combined With A Polyamine Transport Inhibitor Is Effective Against Gemcitabine Resistant Pancreatic Cancer

open access: yes, 2018
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is highly chemo-resistant and has an extremely poor patient prognosis, with a survival rate at five years of \u3c8%. There remains an urgent need for innovative treatments.

Isolation and characterization of human breast adenocarcinoma cells made resistant to α-difluoromethylornithine

open access: yes, 2000
Human breast adenocarcinoma cells MCF-7 were selected for resistance to ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) inhibitor, α-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO). Stepwise increments of the concentration of DFMO resulted in selection of MCF-7 cells that were capable of ...

Effect of difluoromethylornithine on thyroid function in rats.

open access: yesJournal of Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad : JAMC, 2011
A variety of stimuli cause a rapid increase in polyamine synthesis by increasing an enzyme ornithine decarboxylase required for the biosynthetic pathway of protein synthesis. Difluoromethyl ornithine is a selective inhibitor of this enzyme and hence arrests cell replication strikingly.

Properties of L1210 cells resistant to α-difluoromethylornithine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
L1210 cells were selected for resistance to the ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) inhibitor, α-difluromethylornithine. When grown in the absence of the inhibitor, these cells possessed very high ornithine decarboxylase levels.
