Enhanced Eryptosis Following Auranofin Exposure
Background/Aims: The antiinflammatory, antimicrobial and anticancer drug auranofin has previously been shown to trigger apoptosis, the suicidal death of nucleated cells. Side effects of the drug include anaemia. At least in theory the anaemia could result from stimulation of suicidal death of erythrocytes or eryptosis, which involves cell shrinkage and

Stimulated Suicidal Erythrocyte Death in Arteritis
Background/Aims: Arteritis is an inflammatory disease of the vascular wall leading to ischemia and vascular occlusion. Complications of arteritis include anemia, which could, at least in theory, result from suicidal erythrocyte death or eryptosis, which ...

Cell Death Mechanisms Produced by Carbon‐Based Nanoparticles
Using carbon‐based nanoparticles, such as diamond, graphite, fullerene, and nanotubes, has increased their research as possible strategies for drug delivery to control diseases, especially cancer. However, because these materials, when interacting with the living environment, release substances that are capable of inducing cell death by themselves, it ...

This study elucidates a novel mechanism whereby tumor‐derived G‐CSF and GM‐CSF induce delayed neutrophil apoptosis by activating the PI3K‐AKT signaling pathway. Delayed neutrophil apoptosis can facilitate the accumulation of immunosuppressive CXCR4+ neutrophils and impair CD8+ T cell immunity.

Impact of Cyclin-Dependent Kinase CDK4 Inhibition on Eryptosis [PDF]
Background/Aims: The cyclin-dependent kinase 4 (CDK4) participates in the regulation of apoptosis of nucleated cells by altering transcriptional regulation of genes governing cell proliferation and cell death.

Effect of Thioridazine on Erythrocytes
Background: Thioridazine, a neuroleptic phenothiazine with antimicrobial efficacy is known to trigger anemia. At least in theory, the anemia could result from stimulation of suicidal erythrocyte death or eryptosis, which is characterized by cell ...

Bile Acid-Induced Suicidal Erythrocyte Death
Background/Aims: In nucleated cells, bile acids may activate cation channels subsequently leading to entry of Ca2+. In erythrocytes, increase of cytosolic Ca2+ activity triggers eryptosis, the suicidal death of erythrocytes characterized by ...

Association between vitamin D status and eryptosis : results from the German National Cohort study [PDF]
Vitamin D, besides its classical effect on mineral homeostasis and bone remodeling, can also modulate apoptosis. A special form of apoptosis termed eryptosis appears in erythrocytes.

Stimulation of Suicidal Erythrocyte Death by Phosphatase Inhibitor Calyculin A
Background/Aims: The serine/threonine protein phosphatase 1 and 2a inhibitor Calyculin A may trigger suicidal death or apoptosis of tumor cells. Similar to apoptosis of nucleated cells, erythrocytes may enter eryptosis, the suicidal erythrocyte death ...
