Mild Focal Cooling Decouples Dendrites to Reconfigure Cortical Output

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mild cooling of the cortical surface selectively modulates apical dendritic excitability, plasticity, and somato‐dendritic coupling, while uncoupling these effects from basal dendrites, and reshapes apical‐driven responses in barrel cortex during whisker touch.

ALKBH3 m1A Demethylase Deficiency Reduces Alzheimer's Amyloid‐β Pathology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies that ALKBH3‐driven m1A demethylation orchestrates Alzheimer's disease progression by disrupting mitochondrial and synaptic homeostasis. This epitranscriptomic mechanism suppresses PINK1‐mediated mitophagy via m1A erasure, leading to mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, elevated Aβ production, and impaired microglial ...

Multimodal Wearable Biosensing Meets Multidomain AI: A Pathway to Decentralized Healthcare

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multimodal biosensing meets multidomain AI. Wearable biosensors capture complementary biochemical and physiological signals, while cross‐device, population‐aware learning aligns noisy, heterogeneous streams. This Review distills key sensing modalities, fusion and calibration strategies, and privacy‐preserving deployment pathways that transform ...

NIR‐II Imaging‐Guided Photothermal Activation of a TRPV4‐Targeted Nanoplatform Delivering Cycloastragenol to Promote Microglia Reprogramming and α‐Synuclein Clearance in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current therapies for Parkinson's disease (PD) fail to concurrently address α‐synuclein (α‐syn) aggregation and microglia‐mediated neuroinflammation. Herein, we engineer a near‐infrared‐II (NIR‐II) phototheranostic nanoplatform, CAG/FD1080@MM‐aTRPV4, for synergistic regulation of microglial function and real‐time monitoring of PD pathology. We

Rethinking pre-training: cognitive load implications for learners with varying prior knowledge

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
This study examines how prior knowledge and pre-training relate to cognitive load during problem-solving. Grounded in cognitive load theory, it investigates whether pre-training facilitates learning by reducing cognitive load or imposes redundant ...

The evolution of cognitive load theory and its application to medical education

open access: yesPerspectives on Medical Education, 2015
Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) has started to find more applications in medical education research. Unfortunately, misconceptions such as lower cognitive load always being beneficial to learning and the continued use of dated concepts and methods can result

Divergent Roles of mGlu2 and mGlu3 Receptors in Amyloid‐β Production and Cognitive Dysfunctions in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study explores the opposing effects of the mGluR2 and mGluR3 receptors on amyloid precursor protein processing. mGluR2 promotes amyloidogenic cleavage, while mGluR3 favors non‐amyloidogenic pathways. Using a brain‐penetrant nanobody as a mGluR2 positive allosteric modulator, the study uncovers how its chronic activation aggravates amyloid‐β burden

Effects Of The Use Of Calculators, The Polya Heuristic and Worked Examples On Performance in Learning Mathematics From a Cognitive Load Perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Cognitive load theory holds that if an instructional format reduces extraneous cognitive load andlor increases germane cognitive load during learning, as compared to another instructional format, then it will be more efficient in promoting learning ...
