p53 directly regulates the glycosidase FUCA1 to promote chemotherapy-induced cell death [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
p53 is a central factor in tumor suppression as exemplified by its frequent loss in human cancer. p53 exerts its tumor suppressive effects in multiple ways, but the ability to invoke the eradication of damaged cells by programmed cell death is considered

Effects of microRNAs on fucosyltransferase 8 (FUT8) expression in hepatocarcinoma cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Fucosyltransferase 8 (FUT8) catalyzes the transfer of α1,6-linked fucose to the first N-acetylglucosamine in N-linked glycans (core fucosylation). Increased core fucosylation has been reported during hepatocarcinogenesis, in both cell-associated and ...

2-Fluorofucose Attenuates Hydrogen Peroxide-Induced Oxidative Stress in HepG2 Cells via Nrf2/keap1 and NF-κB Signaling Pathways

open access: yesLife, 2022
Fucosylation is one of the most important glycan terminal modifications that affects multiple biological activities of proteins. 2-Fluorofucose (2FF), its specific inhibitor, has recently been reported to reveal numerous biological effects by blocking ...

Salmonella Degrades the Host Glycocalyx Leading to Altered Infection and Glycan Remodeling. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Complex glycans cover the gut epithelial surface to protect the cell from the environment. Invasive pathogens must breach the glycan layer before initiating infection.

Detection of Antibody-Dependent Cell-Mediated Cytotoxicity—Supporting Antibodies by NK-92-CD16A Cell Externalization of CD107a: Recognition of Antibody Afucosylation and Assay Optimization

open access: yesAntibodies, 2023
Antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) by natural killer (NK) lymphocytes eliminates cells infected with viruses. Anti-viral ADCC requires three components: (1) antibody; (2) effector lymphocytes with the Fc-IgG receptor CD16A; and (3 ...

NF-κB Signaling Is Regulated by Fucosylation in Metastatic Breast Cancer Cells

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2020
A growing body of evidence indicates that the levels of fucosylation correlate with breast cancer progression and contribute to metastatic disease. However, very little is known about the signaling and functional outcomes that are driven by fucosylation.

Nanoscale Mapping of the Subcellular Glycosylation Landscape

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using multiplexed super‐resolution imaging with fluorophore‐labeled lectins, this study reports intracellular glycosylation at the nanoscale across organelles and synaptic specializations. Extending glycan analysis beyond the cell surface, Glyco‐STORM reveals distinct glycosylation nanodomains in the ER, Golgi, lysosomes, and synaptic sites.

Comparative Proteomic Analysis of Fucosylated Glycoproteins Produced by Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron Under Different Polysaccharide Nutrition Conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, one of the most eminent representative gut commensal Bacteroides species, is able to use the L-fucose in host-derived and dietary polysaccharides to modify its capsular polysaccharides and glycoproteins through a mammalian ...

Western Diet Inhibits FUT7‐Mediated Treg Intestinal Homing to Disrupt the Homeostasis of Intestinal Epithelial Cells in Crohn's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we constructed a nanoparticle that was CD4 antibody‐mediated targeted, Fut7‐expressing plasmid‐loaded cationic liposome, namely CD4‐LDP‐Fut7. Upregulation of Fut7 expression in Tregs by using CD4‐LDP‐Fut7 can increase Treg homing to the intestine, thereby facilitating repair of the intestinal epithelial barrier and inhibiting ...
