Distinct N-Linked Immunoglobulin G Glycosylation Patterns Are Associated With Chronic Pathology and Asymptomatic Infections in Human Lymphatic Filariasis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Lymphatic filariasis presents a complex spectrum of clinical manifestations ranging from asymptomatic microfilariaemic (MF+) to chronic pathology (CP), including lymphedema and elephantiasis.

Targeting the CD47–SIRPα phagocytic checkpoint in cancer: Biology, translational opportunities, and next‐generation therapeutic strategies

open access: yesSmart Molecules, EarlyView.
The CD47–SIRPα axis has emerged as a critical innate immune checkpoint that suppresses macrophage‐mediated phagocytosis through a canonical “don't eat me” signal and enables tumor immune evasion. We comprehensively summarize the structural and biological features of CD47 and the molecular mechanisms underlying CD47‐mediated regulation of phagocytosis ...

Immunoassay for quantification of antigen-specific IgG fucosylation

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2022
Summary Background Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies serve a crucial immuno-protective function mediated by IgG Fc receptors (FcγR). Absence of fucose on the highly conserved N-linked glycan in the IgG Fc domain strongly enhances IgG binding and ...

Metabolome Diversity Enhances Resistance of Intertidal Clams to Thermal Stress

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Meretrix species are widely distributed intertidal bivalves in China with significant ecological and economic importance, which are sensitive to thermal stress. Our results showed that thermal environments of clam habitats shaped metabolome diversity, which can enhance the resistance of intertidal clams to thermal stress.

Exosomal MALAT1 sponges miR-26a/26b to promote the invasion and metastasis of colorectal cancer via FUT4 enhanced fucosylation and PI3K/Akt pathway

open access: yesJournal of experimental & clinical cancer research : CR, 2020
Exosomes are vesicles of endocytic origin released by various cell types and emerging as important mediators in tumor cells. Human metastases-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) is a long non-coding RNA known to promote cell ...

Eriodictyol suppresses the malignant progression of colorectal cancer by downregulating tissue specific transplantation antigen P35B (TSTA3) expression to restrain fucosylation

open access: yesBioengineered, 2022
Eriodictyol is a natural flavonoid with many pharmacological effects, such as anti-oxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-tumor, and neuroprotection. Besides, it has been reported that flavonoids play an important role in protein glycosylation.

Determinants of Immunoglobulin‐G N‐Glycan Patterns in the Aging General Population

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
The effect of demographic and lifestyle factors on IgG N‐glycosylation, which determines IgG's inflammatory response, remains poorly characterized. Aging, higher BMI, female sex, smoking, and heavy alcohol consumption are determinants of IgG N‐glycome patterns, which are indicative of inflammation. Women exhibit a distinct change in IgG N‐glycosylation

Defective O-fucosylation of EDIL3 attenuates invasion and vascular remodeling of trophoblasts via LIFR signaling pathway in preeclampsia

open access: yesNature Communications
Preeclampsia (PE) is a severe pregnancy disorder caused by placental dysfunction. Protein O-fucosylation is a type of protein post translational modification that is catalyzed by protein O-fucosyltransferases (poFUTs).

Diet–Microbiome–Immune Interactions at the Gut Mucosa in Food Allergy: Mechanisms, Gaps, and Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mucosal surfaces are sites of highly dynamic interactions among epithelial and immune cells, environmental exposures, particularly dietary inputs, and the diverse microbial communities and their metabolites. These elements continually influence each other to maintain homeostasis and ensure appropriate immune discrimination between pathogens ...

FUT8-Directed Core Fucosylation of N-glycans Is Regulated by the Glycan Structure and Protein Environment

open access: yesACS Catalysis, 2021
FUT8 is an essential α-1,6-fucosyltransferase that fucosylates the innermost GlcNAc of N-glycans, a process called core fucosylation. In vitro, FUT8 exhibits substrate preference for the biantennary complex N-glycan oligosaccharide (G0), but the role of ...
