Fusion Pore Diameter Regulation by Cations Modulating Local Membrane Anisotropy

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2012
The fusion pore is an aqueous channel that is formed upon the fusion of the vesicle membrane with the plasma membrane. Once the pore is open, it may close again (transient fusion) or widen completely (full fusion) to permit vesicle cargo discharge. While

Calcium release through P2X4 activates calmodulin to promote endolysosomal membrane fusion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Intra-endolysosomal Ca(2+) release is required for endolysosomal membrane fusion with intracellular organelles. However, the molecular mechanisms for intra-endolysosomal Ca(2+) release and the downstream Ca(2+) targets involved in the fusion remain ...

Exo70-Mediated Recruitment of Nucleoporin Nup62 at the Leading Edge of Migrating Cells is Required for Cell Migration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Nucleoporin Nup62 localizes at the central channel of the nuclear pore complex and is essential for nucleocytoplasmic transport. Through its FG-repeat domain, Nup62 regulates nuclear pore permeability and binds nuclear transport receptors.

Mechanisms of Exocytosis

open access: yesActa Biologica Slovenica, 2009
Vesicles are cellular organelles, in which signaling molecules (neurotransmitters or hormones) are stored and are essential for the function of neurons and endocrine cells in supporting the communication between tissues and organs.

Dynamin Is Functionally Coupled to Insulin Granule Exocytosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The insulin granule integral membrane protein marker phogrin-green fluorescent protein was co-localized with insulin in Min6B1 beta-cell secretory granules but did not undergo plasma membrane translocation following glucose stimulation.

v-SNARE transmembrane domains function as catalysts for vesicle fusion

open access: yeseLife, 2016
Vesicle fusion is mediated by an assembly of SNARE proteins between opposing membranes, but it is unknown whether transmembrane domains (TMDs) of SNARE proteins serve mechanistic functions that go beyond passive anchoring of the force-generating SNAREpin

The exocytotic fusion pore modeled as a lipidic pore

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1992
Freeze-fracture electron micrographs from degranulating cells show that the lumen of the secretory granule is connected to the extracellular compartment via large (20 to 150 nm diameter) aqueous pores. These exocytotic fusion pores appear to be made up of a highly curved bilayer that spans the plasma and granule membranes.
