Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Molecular characterization and expression analysis of three homoeologous Ta14S genes encoding 14-3-3 proteins in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

open access: yesCrop Journal, 2016
The purpose of this study was to characterize Ta14S homoeologs and assess their functions in wheat seed development. The genomic and cDNA sequences of three Ta14S homoeologous genes encoding 14-3-3 proteins were isolated.

Multiple cell and population-level interactions with mouse embryonic stem cell heterogeneity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Much of development and disease concerns the generation of gene expression differences between related cells sharing similar niches. However, most analyses of gene expression only assess population and time-averaged levels of steady-state transcription ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

HnRNP-like proteins as post-transcriptional regulators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Plant cells contain a diverse repertoire of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) that coordinate a network of post-transcriptional regulation. RBPs govern diverse developmental processes by modulating the gene expression of specific transcripts.

An intracellular transporter mitigates the CO2‐induced decline in iron content in Arabidopsis shoots

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study identifies a gene encoding a transmembrane protein, MIC, which contributes to the reduction of shoot Fe content observed in plants under elevated CO2. MIC is a putative Fe transporter localized to the Golgi and endosomal compartments. Its post‐translational regulation in roots may represent a potential target for improving plant nutrition ...

Enhancer‐mediated regulation of developmental gene expression

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2013
Cell‐fate transitions involve the integration of genomic information encoded by regulatory elements, such as enhancers, with cellular and signaling environments. Identification of genomic sequences that control human embryonic development represents a formidable challenge, as they are embedded within a vast noncoding genomic space.

Does cohesin regulate developmental gene expression in Drosophila ? [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2008
Cohesin is a conserved protein complex with a well documented role in providing stable but reversible connections between sister chromatids during both mitosis and meiosis. Cohesin consists of two long coiled-coil proteins (SMC1 and SMC3) and two non-SMC subunits (SCC1/Rad21 and SCC3/SA) that combine to form a ring-like structure.

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

Single gene analysis in yeast suggests nonequilibrium regulatory dynamics for transcription

open access: yesNature Communications
Fluctuations in the initiation rate of transcription, the first step in gene expression, ensue from the stochastic behavior of the molecular process that controls transcription.
