Model for palmitoylation-mediated regulation of gephyrin clustering and plasticity.

open access: yes, 2014
Gephyrin, palmitoylated on Cys212 and 284, forms stable clusters at the postsynaptic membrane. Activity of GABAergic synapses promotes (de)palmitoylation of gephyrin by yet unknown mechanisms.

Gephyrin phosphorylation in the functional organization and plasticity of GABAergic synapses

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2014
Gephyrin is a multifunctional scaffold protein essential for the postsynaptic accumulation of inhibitory glycine and GABAA receptors at synaptic sites.

Complex role of collybistin and gephyrin in GABAA receptor clustering

open access: yes, 2010
Gephyrin and collybistin are key components of GABAA receptor (GABAAR) clustering. Nonetheless, resolving the molecular interactions between the plethora of GABAAR subunits and these clustering proteins is a significant challenge.

The possible role of GABAA receptors and gephyrin in epileptogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2013
The term epileptogenesis refers to a dynamic alteration in neuronal excitability that promotes the appearance of spontaneous seizures. Temporal lobe epilepsy, the most common type of acquired epilepsy, often develops after an insult to the brain such as trauma, febrile seizures, encephalitis, or status epilepticus.

Noise‐induced reduction and early recovery of superior paraolivary nucleus sound‐offset responses

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Acoustic over‐exposure transiently disrupts auditory temporal processing in mouse superior paraolivary nucleus neurons. In control conditions, neurons exhibit robust sound‐offset (OFF) responses, which are abolished immediately following noise trauma, indicating impaired temporal encoding.

Adeno‐Associated Virus Vector‐Mediated Expression of Neuroligin 2 in the Mouse Hippocampus Attenuates the Progression of Pentylenetetrazol‐Induced Seizures [PDF]

open access: yesJ Gene Med
Mice received bilateral hippocampal injections of an AAV vector expressing NL2, followed by repeated PTZ administration. NL2 expression in the HPC attenuated seizure progression and reduced c‐Fos expression in the ventral HPC. These findings suggest that AAV‐mediated NL2 expression in the HPC may be a potential therapeutic strategy for seizure control.

SynapTrack: An automated tool for synapse quantification

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, Volume 304, Issue 2, Page 162-175, November 2026.
Abstract Reliable synapse quantification remains challenging, particularly in high‐throughput fluorescence imaging workflows. Here we present SynapTrack, a fully automated FIJI/ImageJ‐based tool for quantifying synapses in cultured neurons and brain tissue sections with minimal user intervention.

Diazepam Accelerates GABAAR Synaptic Exchange and Alters Intracellular Trafficking

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2019
Despite 50+ years of clinical use as anxiolytics, anti-convulsants, and sedative/hypnotic agents, the mechanisms underlying benzodiazepine (BZD) tolerance are poorly understood.

Heat Shock Cognate Protein 70 Regulates Gephyrin Clustering

open access: yes, 2011
Formation and stabilization of postsynaptic glycine receptor (GlyR) clusters result from their association with the polymerized scaffold protein gephyrin.

Wheel‐Running Exercise Alleviates Anxiety‐Like Behavior via Down‐Regulating S‐Nitrosylation of Gephyrin in the Basolateral Amygdala of Male Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Physical exercise has beneficial effect on anxiety disorders, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains largely unknown. Here, it is demonstrated that physical exercise can downregulate the S‐nitrosylation of gephyrin (SNO‐gephyrin) in the ...
