Emergence of a Hypervirulent Tigecycline-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae Strain Co-producing blaNDM–1 and blaKPC–2 With an Uncommon Sequence Type ST464 in Southwestern China

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Emergence of blaNDM–1 and blaKPC–2 co-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains is currently attracting widespread attention, but little information is available about their tigecycline resistance, virulence, and prevalence in Southwest China. In July 2021,

Pathogenesis of Hypervirulent Group A Streptococcus [PDF]

open access: yesJapan Journal of Medicine, 2018
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) causes common pharyngitis and skin infections and occasional severe invasive infections. This review describes the recent progress on the pathogenesis of hypervirulent GAS. CovRS mutations are frequent among invasive GAS isolates and lead to hypervirulence. GAS CovRS mutants can be selected in vivo by neutrophils.

The making of hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, 2022
AbstractKlebsiella pneumoniae is a notorious bacterium in clinical practice. Virulence, carbapenem‐resistance and their convergence among K. pneumoniae are extensively discussed in this article. Hypervirulent K. pneumoniae (HvKP) has spread from the Asian Pacific Rim to the world, inducing various invasive infections, such as pyogenic liver abscess ...

Ruptured Emphysematous Prostatic Abscess Caused by K1-ST23 Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae Presenting as Brain Abscesses: A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine, 2022
Emphysematous prostatic abscess (EPA) is an extremely rare but potentially fatal urinary tract infection (UTI). Here, we describe a case (a 69-year-old male with prediabetes) of ruptured EPA caused by a hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (hvKp) K1-ST23 ...

Role of the ISKpn element in mediating mgrB gene mutations in ST11 hypervirulent colistin-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
BackgroundColistin has emerged as a last-resort therapeutic against antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections, particularly those attributed to carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) like CRKP.

Lemierre’s syndrome associated with hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae: A case report and genomic characterization of the isolate

open access: yesIDCases, 2021
We describe a case of Lemierre’s syndrome (LS) caused by a hypervirulent strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae in a 63-year-old female with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes mellitus, who presented with right neck pain and fevers.

Emergence of new PCR ribotypes from the hypervirulent Clostridium difficile 027 lineage. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Clostridium difficile is the most common cause of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea worldwide. Over the past 10 years, the incidence and severity of disease have increased in North America and Europe due to the emergence of a hypervirulent clone designated

String test of hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumonia [PDF]

open access: yesQJM, 2014
A 63-year-old woman with a history of type 1 diabetes mellitus and IgA nephropathy, on maintenance dialysis for 10 years, presented with exertional dyspnea of 1 week’s duration and bloody sputum since the previous day. On the day of admission, the patient had awoken with clouding of consciousness; she was brought to the emergency outpatient department

Characteristics of Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae: Does Low Expression of rmpA Contribute to the Absence of Hypervirulence? [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Multidrug-resistant hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (MDR-hvKP) has been increasingly reported and is now recognized as a significant threat to public health; however, characterization of MDR-hvKP has not been systematically investigated. In the present study, 124 of 428 (28.92%) K.

An Inactivated Novel Genotype Fowl Adenovirus 4 Protects Chickens against the Hydropericardium Syndrome That Recently Emerged in China

open access: yesViruses, 2017
Since 2015, China has experienced outbreaks of severe hydropericardium syndrome (HPS), associated with a novel genotype and hypervirulent fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4) infection, with a prevalence in various provinces of the country.
